Great company and excellent benefits!
Jan 11, 2021 - Anonymous Employee in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent benefits— start out with 20 days of PTO and then accumulate another five days every five years (PTO capped at 30 days). Free unlimited standby travel (can get on the flight if a seat is open). Monthly bonus if company hits goals
Cons
Not a warm, friendly culture like JetBlue and Southwest. People are nice but more reserved. Pay isn’t as great as what you would make if you had the same position at tech company

Pros
Flight Benefits, Employee PBP, Stock options, Pretty looking airplanes
Cons
Everything else! Workplace drama, poor management and programs philosophy, outdated systems, inefficiencies, lack of opportunity and upward growth. A bit behind the times with certain levels of innovation and pay is a lower than regional average.

Great Travel Benefits

Great travel benefits, interesting industry
Cons
Low Pay (compared to cost of living and other companies in the area)

Nice company culture and perks.

Cant beat the flight benefits and great people that work there. Flying and working in the operation gives you the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Airlines are great if you love to explore!
Cons
M&E is looked at as a cost center so pay is kept relatively low and money for engineering projects is nowhere to be found. Limited career growth potential.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Alaska Airlines is a good company with a great work environment. The company empowers employees to do what is right in helping its customers.
Cons
The pay scale is a little low to support a family unless their are two incomes. The benefits are excellent. There are good opportunities for advancement.

Great job but salary was lacking
Jul 21, 2022 - Csa Lead in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you love customer service, you’ll love working here as an agent. If you like working overtime, there’s plenty of overtime to do. You can trade or give away your shift.
Cons
The job can be stressful due to ignorant guests. Overtime is too much. There’s junior assigned OT where you’re told, you’re staying 1-4 hours over your shift regardless of anything. Then there’s mandatory OT where everyone must stay for OT. there are times you must work 16 hours. Management is overworked and possibly bullied like the agents. Their thought process is all about the operation and bottom dollar. Some supervisors reward bad behavior of the guests. The guest is late but demand to be on that flight and starts to yell at the agent. Supervisors try to deescalate the situation by giving them miles or compensation. For what? They were late, now being rude and forget about the agent… only worried about their money? It’s a saver fare! I’m not keen on unions so, there’s that. $60/month and the union doesn’t help with anything. The pay isn’t worth the stress until one has been there for 7 years for the significant pay increase. Flight benefits? So much OT or need for work, one doesn’t have time to travel. You’ll have to trade or give away shifts to travel. Diversity and inclusion… if you’re gay, you’re celebrated. If you’re white, your promoted. The inclusion/diversity is being shown by allowing Pacific Islanders (females) to step up due to the majority of those agents who are working there at the SEA station. Other than that, less than a handful of minorities on a managerial or VP level. I don’t care for our unethical CEO, Ben. He should’ve never been promoted and should step down. Too many scandals. It’s great he has a team who keeps the company together. There’s a lot more to be said. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Customer Care negatives
Dec 14, 2021 - Customer Care Representative in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company has a proven, strong commitment to safety and empowering employees to use the service framework to offer compensation to passengers who have had a negative interaction with Alaska and to foster loyal repeat customers. Supportive management that was inclusive even though the position was remote.
Cons
The Customer Care Department needs to re-evaluate how they determine schedules. Currently, you must bid quarterly on a schedule (that they have a list of) and it is awarded purely on seniority with no weight given to performance. Additionally, vacation time was bid in December for the entirety of the following year at 5 days at a time, also based on seniority. There was no way to bid les Pay was competitive when I was first hired but then they moved to a new pay scaling system. This meant that according to the scale, my excellent performance wouldn't garner a pay raise, only my tenure. Due to the pay rate negotiated, I wouldn't be eligible for a very small raise for another 5 years.

Pros
Flight benefits, flexibility in shift trades, company feels genuine, company gives out positive space travel with great performance award.
Cons
Part of union. It seems the union protects bad employees who would otherwise get fired if employed elsewhere. Union is mandatory and fees deducted out of paycheck. Union doesn't do much for employee. Pay is low and competitor airline without union pays starting CSA $5 more an an hour at same airport. Why do we need the union?

Good Company, tough position
Apr 9, 2018 - Reservation Sales Agent in Kent, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great company to work for, very friendly and always happy to answer questions. It's the one airline that I feel comfortable stopping an employee in the airport to ask them a question, because I know first hand Alaska's customer-centric policy. They genuinely want to make people happy and comfortable and it shows. Of course there are also the benefits- not just the flight benefits, that's minor, but the benefits package has really great coverage for you and optionally for family too. It's a very welcoming enviornment and they strive to make the employees happy. After your probationary period, you are free to apply for a transfer for a different department if the one you're in isn't working for you. After probation it is a work from home position and as long as you have good internet they will provide you with the rest, including computer.
Cons
Very little cons for the company itself and more for just the position. The position is really tough and it takes a very specific type of person to do it. Of course, it IS a call center job, so that in itself should indicate what it's like. Back when I worked there, there WAS mandatory overtime, due to high call volumes. They advise that you volunteer for a half hour of OT before they start assigning it. This is unfortunate and there's no real upside apart from more hours means more pay. The pay itself isn't the best, especially for the position, but it does raise after probation and again annually. However, in spite of this, I DID end up returning to the company four years later, because it IS a really good company to work for, I just chose to work in a different department. Like all airlines, it is seniority based, not merit-based, so you have to work your way from the bottom and the bottom is always stuck with the worst shifts as a result.
