I worked at Alaska Commercial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Comes with housing, and yearly bonus.

    Cons

In a remote village, work long hours on salary, very expensive to buy food.

    Advice to Management

Empathize with your employees and customers for the remote living area.

    Pros

Pay and housing. Met some great people. The Native Alaskans were some of the nicest people I met.

    Cons

I was one of the only managers who did not make fun of the customers. The sexists and racist remarks made by most of the other managers were just sickening. If this company was anywhere besides Alaska, they would be sued by almost every current and former employee. Discrimation at its worst here.

    Advice to Management

Look at yourselves in the mirror. You are not the reason this company is around.

    Pros

Not many, housing is paid for it you're in management.

    Cons

They can't keep their word as a company, they're a totally different company once you get up here and are committed for a year.

    Advice to Management

Make surprise visits to your stores, stop sending them your itinerary. You'd be amazed at the difference you see when they know you're not coming.

    Pros

Helped us move to Alaska and return to lower 48 after. emlpoyed both myself and my wife.

    Cons

Used us to get rid of old stock and then fiered us for low P&L. Found out after that it was planned this way all along. Was time when only myself and my wife were there to work 18+hrs a day. Then got complaints because wife was getting so much overtime

  10. "Terrible company with low standards"

    • Work/Life Balance
    • Culture & Values
    • Career Opportunities
    • Comp & Benefits
    • Senior Management
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

adequate pay and benefits, though for the slope it might be low.

    Cons

Low standards for job completion (store may be run very poorly ), HR is unresponsive, no calls innovation or sense of urgency with improvement. Managers may be well overworked - six 11 hour days and a few hours on Sunday. Get everything in writing if you choose to work here.

    Advice to Management

The company just needs more people that both care and are competent enough to do something about it.
