I worked at Alaska General Seafoods as a contractor

    Pros

Free housing, laundry, meals. Great way to save money without any expenses. Management is very helpful and empathetic, will work with you. Overtime after the first 8 hours!

    Cons

Very long hours every day of the week. You don't get assigned your job until you get there, and some are far worse than others. There is no reception for any of the main cell phone providers in the lower 48, very little contact with home.

    Advice to Management

    Instead: advice to new hires:
-Bring music/entertainment to connect you with home.
-Buy a calling card in town.
-Bring rain clothes, very warm gear and clothes that you dont care much about. Even in summer, it gets very cold. You may never get the salmon smell out.
-Bring noise cancelling ear muffs/head phones, they dont have enough to go around and ear buds will fall out while your hands are covered in fish slime
-Bring very, very thick socks for the cutting room where you'll be standing with cheap rubber boots in icey cold fish water up to your ankles
-Bring medicine, all the essentials, very expensive in town in case you get sick

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Alaska General Seafoods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Full-time, weekend off during off season,

    Cons

No benefits, travels to remote locations, lack of proper budget for equipment, long days up to 17 hours work per day, no weekend during summer season, 70 days straight work

    Advice to Management

Spend more money, get more advanced technology, hire more assistants during the season.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

    Alaska is pretty. That's it.

    Cons

Food is terrible. Watered down koolaid everyday. Have a seizure 5 days from season end and be required to work anyway even with doctor note saying you can't. Refuse to work and they kick you out same day, making you pay $600 for a ticket home.

Wifi works in about 10% of the area, 5% of the time. There is absolutely no reason to waste time at this company for ten dollars an hour.

    Advice to Management

My manager was literally bragging about doing crack with his employees, so if you're into that, no advice.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Alaska General Seafoods full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large overall pay, Room & Board

    Cons

Office bureaucracy is very evident, Hours are long and unforgiving, Low general pay, Dangerous work environment

    Advice to Management

It feels like the upper offices at the factory just don't care it listen, like they prefer to sit on their laurels, while the lower workers have to do the backbreaking work for nigh on months on end.
