I have been working at Albany International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I get a paycheck every week, I have benefits, and my immediate coworkers are great to work with even though the environment is chaos and constantly changing.

    Cons

They do not invest in the most important asset(s) of the company, their employees, nor are there any retention efforts. So, at the moment there is an extremely high turnover rate in employment. The corporate company is pushing their agenda to all existing and new units. The managers and supervisors (not all), at least where I work, are immature and are not qualified to fulfill their roles. We witness unit managers butting heads with corporate managers because they do not agree with the corporate agenda. They have removed the 9/80 schedule for salaried employees to put us on an equal plane with the hourly employees, even though we don't get paid overtime and are expected to work more. They advertise that they have unlimited PTO, but the key words of the phrase is that "you are eligible" for unlimited vacation until you are give the attendance requirements the first day of work and light is shed on the fact that you only have 4 weeks. That 4 weeks is for vacation, sick days and for any other reason that you may need to miss work. Don't get me wrong 4 weeks is great, but I don't like the misleading claim that the company offers unlimited PTO to new hires. It is just one way the company gets that off of their books and avoid paying for accrued vacation. The employees of the company are fighting fires everyday as a result of the company going through two rounds of layoffs, recently. Simply said, it is hard to do work that will improve the company because we are too busy fighting fires everyday as a result of poor management, poor training, poor employee retention, recent layoffs, and everything being about a political agenda.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that managers need to figure out how they can invest in their employees and act on efforts to retain them, especially salaried employees. The time has come that we are seeing the survivors of the layoffs leave the company for new and better opportunities.

    Pros

There are terrible accommodations for working parents. HR can't ever see the bigger benefit of being accommodating. They wonder why overall moral is low. Treat employees well and know when to be accommodating, and employees will be happier.
