  1. "A solid school district, given realities of public education"

I have been working at Albany Unified School District part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a small school district in a relatively wealthy community (and as importantly, a district where families value education), there is a lot of support for teachers, fewer disruptions, and a generally safe environment.

    Cons

As it is a small district, there's less diversity of opportunity. And as a public school district, resources are very constrained.

    Advice to Management

The administration should take steps to reduce barriers to involvement in the schools for parents and volunteers. Lots that goes on in the schools isn't communicated well to the families.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Albany Unified School District part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff, respectful patrons, new pools, clean facility.

    Cons

Sometimes it is hard to get subs if you need to miss a shift. There are mandatory staff training sessions sometimes on the weekends.

    Advice to Management

    More lifeguard training.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Students are in general highly motivated. Some staff members are very dedicated.

    Cons

The decision-making process for laying off teachers is not at all transparent and is guided more by political allegiances than by fairness. Extremely high staff turnover. Unsupportive staff culture.

    Advice to Management

Recognize importance of coherent staff culture and take steps to reduce staff turnover.
