      Pros

Supportive environment. Relaxed and collegial atmosphere. Social events for fun and networking opportunities.

      Cons

Some minor IT problems. Location is difficult without a car. Postdoc housing will save you money but it dirty, has major roach problems, and on a noisy street.

      Pros

given my terrible experience as a phd student i was really looking for a pleasant change most of the pros and cons below almost perfectly coincide with covid pre-covid treated like an expert in the field, contributions appreciated felt like progress was being made towards a singular project professional development and career building resources are great

      Cons

covid expected to work at all time of the day, including weekends on non-covid related projects given multiple un-related side projects by pi pi refused to read emails thoroughly or update themselves on progress except thru lab meeting (which included 10 other people, 2 of which are also postdocs) all papers brought to a halt terrible response to covid given they never actually closed awful plans for reopening i'm honestly still trying to work out the drastic difference before and during covid. note my pi is in their 60s, no kids, appears to be in good health, and also works from home.

      A solid institution.

      Pros

AECOM is a solid institution, with known excellence in the field of research. The benefits offered resume pretty much to dental and medical, both have co-pay and are not that bad. It is a respected research facility, some great principal investigators and chances for collaboration. It has served me well in the beginning of my career.

      Cons

The ownership by Yeshiva University has hurt AECOM. Future is a little unclear, and it seems like Montefiore Group might by it off of Yeshiva. This might bring a fresh look that might better the school. Some administrative personnel don't fully value the PostDoc career, and there is room for improvement.

      Pros

Research groups an departments are very collaborative. Very good facilities. depending on you PI, postdocs can have a lot of support in there careers, but some PI do not help at all.

      Cons

They do not have good support for moms, no day care. Depending of your boss, posdocts do not have a good maternity leave support. 6 weeks.

Well funded and medicine research oriented institute.

Jun 23, 2012 - Graduate Student in Bronx, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Relaxing working environment except one lab. Nice and cheap neighborhood considering this is New York City. Fast for green card applications, with in 2-3 years for postdoc.

      Cons

Not very highly ranked. Not many labs to choose from is you are aiming at publishing Cell, Nature or Science. Bronx is a relative boring place.
