I worked at Alberta Energy Regulator full-time

    Pros

Great benefits program (HSA, PSA) best I have seen. You earn 2 flex days a month, to be used when and how you want to use them. Great vacation time. Paid by salary. Friendly staff.

    Cons

Senior leadership talks a lot about "open door policies" and "transparency" but you get slapped on the hand if you try and reach out to senior management, and there is zero transparency. Everyone is overworked, biting off more than they can chew, but no recognition is awarded other than verbal "thank you"'s - if that. Micromanagers, and Managers/leaders who have less experience than the staff are expected to lead projects and tasks, into compliance.

    Advice to Management

Reward and recognize your existing staff that have been there since the beginning. Handing over roles, and increased salaries to new employees is disheartening to existing staff. Senior management needs to make more of an effort to spend time with their staff.
