    I worked at Alcatel-Lucent full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Challenging and interesting work.
    Multi-National teamwork
    Good benefits
HR and other systems easy to use
Freedom within business units to tailor process to meet needs

    Cons

    Low standardization on tools/process
Not much opportunity to leverage latest software technologies to stay current with skills
    Not much opportunity for training
Company is not loyal to employees. There is too much bean-counting and tendency to outsource to lowest bidder

    Advice to Management

There is no such thing as a portable engineer. You need to value long-term knowledge and experience instead of focusing on where you can pay engineers the least.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Kanata, ON (Canada)

    Pros

There was no overwhelming pressure to get things done. The team and the manager would support you if something doesn't work out. Hours were flexible. New employees have a mentor for at least a year. Friendly atmosphere.

    Cons

There was the sense that no one was particularly interested in doing "great" work and that could be linked to the laid back feel of the place. If something goes wrong, your mentor and manager will be "on your side" but there weren't really resources or and intention to actually do better or fix things properly. The friendly atmosphere sometimes turns into a distraction and people are confused when you want to get back to work. Getting resources like HR and IT support is slow and clunky because they're off-site/out-sourced and their internal website has outdated or inconsistent information with broken links., half my coworkers didn't know what their benefits as employees were.

    Advice to Management

Support employees who are eager to learn.

Don't have much expectations from interns (you have to approach yourself to different people to explore more options/work): not bad though.
