    I worked at Alcatel-Lucent full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing benefits, working from home was great.

    Cons

Upper Management expectations were completely unrealistic, 22 hour work days were still not enough, over the top dedication was met with scorn. But it's to be expected in such a large company where even Management two levels up couldn't remember employee names.

    Advice to Management

Take it easy on your staff, they're doing the best they can.

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great work environment. Great colleagues. Great collaborative environment.

    Cons

Lot of pressure at working level people due to constant mergers and constant reduction in work force

    Advice to Management

I wish them the best. Make the right decision to turn around the company for its survival even if it means some loss at any levels including management levels

    Pros

I enjoyed working for the company and liked the many areas I was able to work in with in the company as well as while I was contracted out to Divisions of the company and external customers of the company...I repaired desk tops lap tops installed lan\wan and trouble shoot them for us internally as well for our external customers and the Govt. with my clearances.

    Cons

Really It was a Large company and I was able to work with practically all the facilities with in the country as a non management personnel and then in a management position as well.

Saying all that IT had it's moments of ups and downs. But that goes along the territory on the job I had but overall I enjoyed the diversity of it all including diversity of personnel.

    Advice to Management

With all the changes that came down the road if management would keep an open dialog with their Employees and focus on controlling their organizations witch I felt that they not all but some thought themselves to be a separate company Especially from main Corporate Rules of the company. This is my own opinion as I saw it .

I worked at Alcatel-Lucent (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Had some really good opportunities to grow when it was newly formed back in 2006

    Cons

After the merger of Alcatel with Lucent, career opportunities for IT department seemed to dissipate and now the company has merged once again to become Nokia.

    Advice to Management

The Company needs a strategy for retaining intellectual capital including human capital (i.e., technical talent, SMEs) and intellectual property. Part of this strategy is organization excellence. "When people in a company are treated well (i.e., well trained; offered career growth opportunities), the people in that company will flourish and help to grow a thriving company and ultimately increase the company's bottom line.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

    Great hard-working and dedicated colleagues
A lot of autonomy to work on your primary project/role
My manager was very good and easy to work with and communicate
Office Gym (small additional membership cost)
    Well Maintained RF labs
Typically expenses for equipment is not a problem, especially when acquiring ALU/Nokia equip (kind of a duh thing to say for a company's own equipment, but you'd be surprised of the logistics)

    Cons

Major disconnect from upper management and no transparency of what management goals/targets are
No pay raise for the last several years
Colleagues are consistently in fear of losing their jobs due to merges, acquisitions, and general management decisions. In addition, there was this competition internally against coworkers in China stealing projects & job roles.

    Advice to Management

Need to improve communication with all subordinates and be clear and concise of the purpose for their decisions

    Pros

Flex Time, Good Benefits. Tele Commute.

    Cons

A lot of churn and lay offs/downsizing. Company too big and can't get out of it's own way.

    Advice to Management

Let the mid level employees make business decisions as upper management is too far removed from reality of what is really going on.
