    I worked at Alcatel-Lucent full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Customers are demanding, but reasonable. Peers are helpful, respectful, hard working, and professional. Management was respectful and shared company business status. Teams were dedicated to overall success. They expect staff to continually improve so there are opportunities for growth and learning.

    Cons

The company was always struggling financially so compensation suffered as a result. Also there were some downsizing, but mostly in other areas of the company.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to better manage the business to improve profitability for the long term. The company has a lot of talent, but needs to ensure its focused on profitable businesses. Also the top executives need to find a way to encourage more cooperation and teamwork between the various business units.

I worked at Alcatel-Lucent (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Had some really good opportunities to grow when it was newly formed back in 2006

    Cons

After the merger of Alcatel with Lucent, career opportunities for IT department seemed to dissipate and now the company has merged once again to become Nokia.

    Advice to Management

The Company needs a strategy for retaining intellectual capital including human capital (i.e., technical talent, SMEs) and intellectual property. Part of this strategy is organization excellence. "When people in a company are treated well (i.e., well trained; offered career growth opportunities), the people in that company will flourish and help to grow a thriving company and ultimately increase the company's bottom line.
