I have been working at Aldec full-time

    Pros

Great team and small but fast-paced environment.
Lots of opportunities for beginners as provides growth in technical aspects. The newly formed team environment is really different and better than the older one.

    Cons

    Vegas weather.
Less pay compared to Bay area. You need to utilize the position assigned to you. There won't be someone keeping an eye at you all the time and so you need to stay hungry for new things on your own. Self-motivation.

    Pros

    Cons

As of now, I have not faced any cons.

I worked at Aldec full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There really aren't many pro's unless you have no experience and need a job desperately. They like to hire telemarketing people and pay them hourly.

    Cons

No real management or people with industry experience. Owner likes a tiny cubicle environment with a telemarketing team of people that say they do sales. New sales are achieved by discounting product lower then competition. Turnover is outrageously high. Lot's of key people eliminated and new people that were hired are college graduates with a Visa for the most part. Key positions, (CIO, CTO, VP of Sales, VP of Engr, VP of Finance), are non existent in USA. Too many more cons to list.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to a real EDA outfit.

I worked at Aldec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people were great until we dropped like flies and left for 100X better opportunities.

Paid the bills until said opportunity was official.

    Cons

Management didn't realize the potential of the engineers and shat on them at every turn.

There was absolutely no room to grow.

The benefits were nothing to write home to.

Even worse, no bereavement!! My loved one passes away and you FORCE me to either go without pay or my vacation time. Complete BS.

Vacation accrument was awful and barely gave enough time to do anything.

Dumping responsibilities on to the engineers that were left instead of hiring more, OR hiring engineers and giving them ZERO guidance and still expecting them to be experts.

Refusing to change to meet or compete with other companies.

    Honestly, the list goes on.

    Advice to Management

    Change everything.

I worked at Aldec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This review is for post-2013 Aldec headquarters in Nevada. I can't think of any pros except for ability to pay the bills while looking for a real job. Another reviewer mentioned "good salary/benefits and amazing colleagues"... that must be a mistake as it definitely is not about Aldec. The salary and benefits were never even close to the industry average. The team used to be good until 90% of those amazing colleagues left or were let go.

    Cons

Compensation and location noted by other reviewers are not the biggest problems. In fact, they are nothing compared to the incredibly low level of an average Aldec senior manager professional skill set. People who have absolutely no clue about what they do run this company and it shows in all aspects of it. It became a hellhole. Engineers are hired directly from college and typically don't last for more than 1-2 years unless their visa expired and they just can't leave after realizing where they ended up. Sales is a telemarketing function. If you are applying for a job at Aldec, do yourself a favor and do some homework and think twice if you really have no other choice.

    I worked at Aldec full-time

    Pros

very friendly staff members in sales and engineering.
work environment is quiet peaceful and not stressful.
flexible with requests for time off.

    Cons

not enough help in engineering and marketing.
management of engineering needs to be better then what it is now.

    Advice to Management

bring in a bigger group of engineering talent.
do a better job keeping pace with competitors products.

I have been working at Aldec full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has gone through many changes since 2013 which was inevitable. Amazing co-workers who are respectful to each other and passionate about their job. Its a small company so you will learn a lot - critical element for young talent. There are not many companies in the world who makes SystemVerilog simulator - Aldec is one of them - so you will be working with cutting edge technology and very smart people. Salary and benefits are good. Amazing work/life balance makes this company less stressful.

    Cons

Its a small company so there is a limited vertical growth. Not located in silicon valley - which seems to be the problem for many people.

I have been working at Aldec full-time

    Pros

    1. Relatively light workload compared to other companies. Work/life balance.
    2. Lots of responsibility. Great place to learn at the initial stage of professional career.
    3. Competitive salary (by Nevada standard).

    Cons

    1. Terrible management, which causes problems in all aspects of the company.
    2. Morale is so low that it's depressing to even think about going to the office each day.
    3. No long/short term vision in top management. Very limited communication from the management.
    4. No integrity, no respect, no job security.
    5. Very few experienced people in the company. Training and mentorship is minimal to nonexistent.
    6. Very limited professional growth and career advancement opportunities.
    7. Management doesn't recognize the value of a good employee.
    8. People are leaving the company. More than 50% are gone since the reorg.

    Advice to Management

Aldec has surely missed any opportunity to be acquired (a standard exit route in this industry) and lacks the leadership capability to competently grow. This is a shame because they have been successful in attracting great people from time to time. No advice would help because the management do not listen to anybody except brown nose sycophants.
