I worked at Aldine Independent School District full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The diversity of the student body and employees make this a great place to work. I think that I gained a lot of knowledge and classroom management skills to succeed.

    Cons

Professional development and PLCs are so test score driven that it doesn't actually make it a healthy environment for teachers to actually see their students as people first. It's very numbers driven, and though it is a diverse district, I don't think enough is being done to elevate and help bring better equity to Title I schools. The funding is there, but I didn't always enjoy teaching because there was a lack of restorative justice in the schools. The hours are also insane. There is a lot of scientific research on school times and having school hours adjusted to better fit student's stage of life and biological development makes more sense. I'm now in a district that starts high school at 9:05am and ends at 4:15pm. It's great.
