I worked at Alere full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It started out very nice, had good concept and vision. Big plus is working from home and I personally had a fantastic direct supervisor.

    Cons

Company went downhill during the time I was there – management style deteriorated rapidly. Pay was extremely low compared to other companies as well as benefits. Typical overworked, underpaid high stress atmosphere. Too high of caseloads and too much demand/expectations. Had to move on for my own peace of mind.

    Pros

Great ideas.. legacy employees, could have been a contender.

    Cons

Constantly promoting the wrong people with limited skill or passion for the core business. You are either a POC company or you are a lab company. You can not be both. Current upper management is only focused on selling the company and therefore are not focused on bringing quality products to market and ensuring the products work and provide the information needed by the customer to bring about change.

    Advice to Management

Ask yourself why you are there? Are you a manager or a leader? Mostly managers with no passion. Hire talent, get rid of those who are not engaged and find your passion.

I worked at Alere full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There's opportunity for growth since the company was bought out officially in 2015 by Optum health. You can now move to other departments, find a job in another state with the company and negotiate your pay.
The work is fairly easy just repetitive.

    Cons

Too many people there that were comfortable with the low pay and very territorial about their positions. Some people had been there for 10 years plus and are just starting out on the salary I hired was on with. The work isn't a challenge and repetitive. Asking patient whether or not they've used their device every two days becomes redundant.

    Advice to Management

Turn over is too high. Unrealistic demands, Too much micromanaging because so many people are afraid of losing there jobs. Hire managers or supervisors that care about their jobs and the quality of your business. I felt like I was in an inner city school with no funds and my manager was a teacher there only for his/her pay check.

A good starter job for people straight out of high school or college

    Cons

There is absolutely no training. The hours and on call are bs. Compensation for the position is severely lacking.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to train, teach, and motivate your team.

I worked at Alere as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work-Life Balance has always been good

    Cons

Take a look at the company's annual financial reports. The company has been in debt for some time. I would not be surprised if the company goes out of business or decides to sell its business to a big biotech/pharma company. I would be scared to lose my job if I continued to work here. I would not recommend working for this company. There is absolutely no room for career growth especially in the finance department. Selfish management, not caring for the Analysts who do all the dog work for them. Screw this company and go find a different job people.

    Advice to Management

Admit that the company is in debt, and reduce costs.

I have been working at Alere (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nothing really to comment on to be honest

    Cons

Demanding Culture, no loyalty, company direction is always a guess with Namal...Selling? Change in focus constantly and no long tem goals. Fire drills everywhere and miserable environment to wok in. That about sums it up

    Advice to Management

treat your employees with more respect and without installing fear into them.
