I have been working at Alere Toxicology part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is great to work for and the supervisors are wonderful. The hours of my position are great . Work is on production so you have near total control over how much you make as long as you meet the minimum quotas.

    Cons

I can't think of a single con to this company or the position I have in it.

    Advice to Management

Keep up what you're doing. You're great and the team environment is wonderful.

I worked at Alere Toxicology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Young and interesting co-workers who share similar values to you.
    -'Apparent' opportunities to grow

    Cons

-Very little appreciation for any work done.
-A 'do more' with less mentality.
-A lot of politics, many people that have been promoted tend to play a role in those politics.
-Your supervisors will blame you for things and not help you understand what may or may not have gone wrong.
-Overall boring and dull work,, terrible office space with very little light.
-A lot of turnover that produces significant morale loss.
-Entry-level work is not paid well, and often you're probably going to be on contract so you're kind of in slave labor territory (i.e. no benefits for close to 6 months)
-There were some great co workers I had that ended up getting pushed out because they didn't have the educational credentials, but had worked there for 2 years.

    Advice to Management

    -Rework the whole business
-Put emphasis on training well and not having your peers train you, this just doesn't work.
-Pay fairly and include even the lowest person on the totem pole, businesses will crumble when this isn't done.

I worked at Alere Toxicology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked as part as a small team of only 4 people who maintained the lab instruments. The team was great, very friendly, and taught me a lot. Pay was good for a job fresh out of college too.

    Cons

This division of the company (Clearwater, FL) had poor leadership and was just not being run for responsibly. 30% of the work force was laid off in one day, and the manager doing it was nice but didn't seem to have much actual authority. Big wigs in corporate over-micromanaged some aspects of the company as well.

    Advice to Management

Get knowledgeable, professional management in house. Then let them let them do their job and stop micro-managing and making things unnecessarily difficult.

I worked at Alere Toxicology full-time

    Pros

Nice people, good work life balance

    Cons

Company never feels stable. It always felt like objectives were there to make company look like it was growing but in reality it was just a game of hide the problem and collect whatever revenue they could.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of non productive staff and clarify job roles and goals.

I worked at Alere Toxicology full-time

    Pros

It was pretty good pay and pretty easy. The people were friendly as well. Management mostly left you alone. You could listen to music while you work while I was there.

    Cons

It smelled of urine in the actual lab although most of the data entry personnel's time is not spent in the lab. also the hours were 11-7 Tuesday to Saturday so that was weird.

    Advice to Management

I think the management is fine. They stay out of your way and are efficient in dealing with any issue that would warrant their attention

I have been working at Alere Toxicology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Inside culture of helpfulness not necessarily supported by management. Young talented techs if they can keep them. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Rampant turnover, poor decision making throughout that leads to incredible waste in money and resources.. Leadership is painfully poor...higher up they are in this division the worse they are. Communication lacking from sales to production which leads to client frustration. On the site level work can be satisfactory but the ineptitude of higher leadership, repeated poor or hasty decision making will lead to frustration over time.

    Pros

Getting to leave at the end of the day.

    Cons

Management, HR, sucks to deal with. The morale is low its depressing. Everybody looking for another job.

    Advice to Management

Go back to school and get a education. None of them have experience or a degree in there field of work. So if you are to this company its like the blind leading the blind.
