A fun, challenging, "target rich" environment.

      Pros

I love that I can take ownership of so many aspects essential to succeeding in my job. This is a place where individualism, being a socially awkward geek is socially embraced. The company still believes it is a start-up and in many respects it is - but is transitioning to being a more responsible operating company. What some do not understand with tempered experience is that transitions of culture, business, applications, operations and sales is tough. Much tougher than some at glassdoor give credit for. This place is stacked to the ceiling with crazy intelligent, great people of great character. As a social experiment a $5 bill was left in the open in a common use area for 12 days and no one moved it. Can many companies say that? Gray Hall the CEO is amazing, personable and always razor sharp on his "A" game and will happily ask you penetrating questions that keep you on your "A" game. Seriously, Gray is a rock solid, great man and leader. I enjoy working long hours, so for me the opportunities are positive. Many would move this comment to a Con.

      Cons

Alert Logic is almost a lifestyle choice more than a job, so be prepared to do a lot of work and at a lot of off hours. Some of the Executive Management has limited experience with senior management, let alone at the executive level and it can sometimes show. There are too many mandate projects that must be supported without sufficient staffing support - many of these have nothing to do with supporting new/existing products or future growth. Somewhat of a military "FIGMO" attitude.

Has to get worse before it can get better

      Pros

Great people work with / work environment, lots of opportunity to make more money, good benefits, work-life balance is great

      Cons

Been losing a lot of opportunities due to our offering not matching exactly what the customer is looking for. Need better messaging from marketing. Better quality leads has always been a struggle. Lots of people have left or been let go within the last couple of months due to our performance as a company in 2017. Constant chatter about the uncertainty of our direction as a company right now so morale is a bit low but I do think we are getting to the point where things are about to pick up and be in a good place again.

Company culture is changing and not for the better

      Pros

Benefits are great, as much overtime as you want to work. Good place to get your foot in the door in the IT industry in Houston. Great people to work with.

      Cons

The new management within some of the teams is not a good match for the culture of the company. Alert Logic has lost it's charm from when I first started sadly. Increasing responsibilities but not the pay.

A great idea with poor execution

      Pros

Great people. Great food being in Houston and lots of changes and growth.

      Cons

Company too focused on getting sold or IPO to put time in to quality. Most of the products are either open-sourced or beta. Customers either just want a checkmark for compliance or are angry and frustrated with bugs fixes being placed well behind all the "this is what we think you should want". Don't plan on getting a promotion or raise. What you get when you arrive is what you'll have when you leave.

      Good company

      Pros

Great people and a fast paced, but also laid back environment. Good benefits and a flexible work schedule allowed for a nice work life balance. Strong leader in the cloud security space. Perks have increased recently which is nice.

      Cons

Constant change from management makes it difficult to standardize and automate processes. The ability to evolve is critical but evolving every week just for the sake of change is wasteful. Only a 50% match on 401(k) up to 6%.

Is this high school or is it hell?

      Pros

A lot of really great people work there - most of them are miserable with the way the company is currently being run but are too scared or too "content" (note - I did not say "happy" - I said "content", meaning they don't want the hassle of interviewing again) with their job to speak up.

      Cons

The products and services have been built willy-nilly with more concern placed over obtaining customers than retaining them through having a well-built product with few bugs. Q/A is a joke. Documentation is rare. Communication is absent. Management is often hired from outside the company and there is very little to no room for advancement - and the few who do manage to receive promotions have lied, cheated, clawed and stolen their way to their promotions and will continue to do so to stay there - so if you are an over-achiever and not "in with the clique", you will be replaced quickly.. Salaries are below market level for lower level employees and well above market level for middle-management and above. There is NO work-life balance for the entry levels, seniors and team leads. Employees feel that if they speak out about anything they are unhappy about, they will be ignored at best and punished at worst.

      Pros

Some very great people especially the "alert logic mom"! Quarterly meetings, while long, informative. Flexible hours. Busy busy.

      Cons

Leadership crosses wires. Lack of competence between departments and even products. Just growing faster than the staff could support technically.
