I have been working at Alexandria City Public Schools (More than a year)

    Pros

The job can be interesting or really boring. I had to spend outside time prepping to make things interesting. Not a lot of support, but a good entry way to teaching.

    Cons

The pay is low, varied work environment. Students can be overly challenging. Most students are not on their best behavior when they know a sub is there.

    Advice to Management

    Looking for court case information?

Public records can often be difficult to locate for a variety of reasons, and navigating through the thousands of courts can be frustrating. While there are expensive sites that can be very useful, often it’s just a matter of knowing which courts offer online databases. That’s where we come in. Simply select a jurisdiction above to quickly and inexpensively research court case dockets, pleadings, filings, opinions, and calendars. Our collection of government and commercial resources will help you obtain federal, state, and local court case information faster than ever before.

In addition to maintaining court links across the US, we also maintain useful resources that will help you research class actions. Class actions are cases where a group of people (the class) sues a company for different reasons. Different types of class action cases include Securities (stock), Consumer (like food mislabeling, bothersome telemarketing, bank misdeeds, etc), Antitrust, Employment, and others.

I worked at Alexandria City Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, diverse population, available funding for new and innovative curriculum. Great community outreach programs.

    Cons

High rate of overturn of staff, including in the central office level. 4 different Superintendents in 5 years. Rigid policies when it comes to assisting employees with health issues. Politically run school system. No real employee support. Track record of misappropriation of funds on school and central office levels.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to listen to and care more for your employees, especially those employees who have gone above and beyond for 15+ years. Your employees matter. Fix procedures that you follow to ASSIST employees with chronic illnesses or other related health issues. Your employees lives matter.

I worked at Alexandria City Public Schools (More than a year)

    Pros

Great physical location. Close to the metro and 495. Clean building and work environment.

    Cons

Too much administrative type tasks. The skills of the employees are not taken advantage of. I have a PhD and I spent my day doing admin type tasks, in fact 85% of my job was admin and customer service related. The salary is also not aligned with the amount of work and stress that is involved in working here.

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities for growth. Play around with the titles so that there are multiple levels of growth within a department. Require all management personnel to complete leadership training.

I worked at Alexandria City Public Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great hours, friendly people, excellent systemic structure.

    Cons

Prehistoric structure for support staff. They employ people with no skills to control support staff that do have a superior skill-set. Prehistoric hierarchical structure, meaning there are "lead" secretaries who try to boss other secretaries and utilize bullying tactics.

    Advice to Management

Not all support staff is of the non-intellectual mindset

I worked at Alexandria City Public Schools part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

easy way to make money, the interface of how to get jobs is simple, the hr department is very helpful

    Cons

getting the jobs on the website is easy but getting a lot of work is not if you don't make connections with teachers and quickly, don't get on the teachers bad side at any school because it will follow you. it takes a really long time to get on the registry for substitute teaching and its very unnecessary

    Advice to Management

speed up the substitute teacher intake
