I worked at Alghanim Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of stuff going on, lots of initiatives at the top and highly ambitious plans to do lots of different projects. There were lots of changes going on when I was there, with initiatives to bring in the most modern of western management practices. This provides lots of opportunities to do a lot at an early stage in one's career. They had a very strong emphasis on hiring bright new people with high potential.

    Cons

Lots of focus on appeasing the more senior people. The company had a cliqueish atmosphere at times where departments would divide by race (indians in accounting, Lebanese in retail, etc).
Kuwait City in itself leaves a lot to be desired. On the otherhand, it does force closer net communities outside the office as you've got nothing to do in the city otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Empower more of the middle level management

I worked at Alghanim Industries (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Regionally reputed company and a good name to have your CV. Professional, knowledgeable and personable executive management. Modern and professional work spaces.
There's a fair amount of 'good' work to be done with bright people - which unfortunately doesn't go hand-in-hand with the corrosive work environment.

    Cons

    * Advertise ambitious initiatives (gender diversity etc.), none of which are practiced.
    * Ridiculously high levels of office politics
    * Management will often use race, ethnicity and gender to make decisions regarding employee advancement and development opportunities.
    * Very low focus on employee development and training needs
    * Lack of professional communication skills in Managerial levels

    Pros

Growing company expanding in region, career growth opportunities, progressive CEO, good talent development focus, strong leadership team, continuously trying to improve processes and systems, pursuing things like gender diversity

Rigid performance appraisal system that forces managers to rank all employees, hours can be long depending upon which business and department, many top execs are hired externally

    Advice to Management

Continue efforts to adopt international best practices and become a leading company in the region, try to develop more internal talent to be the future leaders of the company

    Pros

No good thing to talk about Alghanim.

    Cons

Alghanim is one of the worst organizations to work.

Highly unprofessional and full of politics/dirt inside.

New employees please be careful in this organization.

The old employees generally target the new employees.

The new joiners are the soft targets as is it very easy to play politics with them.

The ultimate intention is to terminate the new employees so that oldies can secure their position in organization.

Those who are planning to join Alghanim, think 100 times before making this move.

Specially if you are an IT professional you should NEVER join.

The business treats the IT like dogs. (Within IT teams as well there is lot of politics).

Work culture is very poor. Absolutely far away from professionalism and ethics.

The best example to explain this organization is that out of 100 employees leaving, 80 are actually the terminations.

The terminations are so common here.

It is across levels and irrespective of talent. (Pure political game).

The organization in general is never stable on strategies. They have a very short term visions.

With the new business strategy they will recruit many people on the other hand with the failure will immediately go with terminations.

The lifespan of such terminations is so less sometimes that, by the time new joiner understands the organization, he is already out.

Therefore please think 100 times before joining Alghanim.

The offer given by HR might be very lucrative, but as there is no guarantee of survival, its no worth.

    Advice to Management

Grow up and see the facts within.

Good company name to have on your CV. Opportunity to join internal trainings if your manager approves. Successful internal communications department.

    Cons

Terrible management, low salaries. Upper management changes so often, so do the projects. Poor office facilities, old fashioned offices and old fashioned management.
