I have been working at AliMed full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Close knit family owned company.
    Well established and growing.
New leadership across many disciplines brought change and fresh perspective.
    Recent renovations.
Location. Highways nearby and free parking.
    Wave of promotions this year.
Positive experiences waiting for those who want to find them.

    Cons

    Owner's engagement on small details.
Can't let go of "catalog and modernization is moving slowly despite many years of upgrades.
Limited remote working and limited time off.
    Complicated systems.

    Advice to Management

Provide clear 1, 5 and 10 year goals and trust the employees to get there. Compensate fairy. Cut dead weight, don't tollerate the few naysayers or they will drag down moral.

    Pros

Great cataloger making strides to become multi-channel oriented.

    Cons

E-commerce efforts need a stronger team to increase sales.

I worked at AliMed full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no professional pros at Alimed.

    Cons

Toxic environment. Basics are not met such as appreciation, benefits are bare bones, quality of work outdated and interactions with employees negative. No plan to change though change is referenced constantly. A core group of employees run the business the way the owner wants it run which is reactionary and chaotic and based on what happened the day before. Opportunity exists but a strong, experienced leader is needed to set basic strategy, hold people accountable to performance and measure results.

    Advice to Management

Decide if change is possible and if not, stop talking about it.

I worked at AliMed full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who work there are great and very hard working. The product line is diverse.

    Cons

Very little recognition for good work. Was told by the founder that "everybody is replaceable" and, unfortunately, that's the culture there. Was told by a VP that it "was ok to have ideas, just keep them in a folder until I ask for them". Despite growing sales, the company keeps cutting costs and positions. Employee morale low. High turnaround. Processes are old and outdated.

    Advice to Management

Welcome ideas from all levels. Recognize hard work and employee input. Avoid being disrespectful and dismissive.

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, being forced to work in 12 feet of snow so they don't have to pay for a day off. Christmas bonuses diminishing to nothing. A caste system that would give India a pause.

    Cons

Management is incompetent and they take it out on their employees. 2% raises a year are the norm and we are told we should be happy we have a job.

    Advice to Management

Pay your workers! You guys get insane bonuses while people in the warehouse can barely afford to keep food on the table

    I worked at AliMed full-time

    Pros

Generally flexible hours, work from home occasionally, overall good experience. Fairly accessible location from north, south, or in Boston. Employee events like BBQs.

    Cons

Management is horrific - disorganized, deceiving, cheap. I also found mid-level management to be extremely catty (think the movie Mean Girls) one of them even made fun of an employee's weight behind her back. They want the cheapest or even free labor, so for this reason they love unpaid interns. They're willing to make false promises of jobs with salaries and benefits that are not available, so new grads beware. The office conditions are also deplorable - moldy basements, drab, dreary - even multiple pest problems.

    Advice to Management

Don't take advantage of your employees.

I have been working at AliMed full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people I work with have done nothing but help me learn and feel comfortable. Starting a new job can be very nerve wracking and my supervisor has been great and reassuring. They have also been great about positive reinforcement, which is important, especially when you work in customer service. They understand 'Praise in public, criticize in private'.

    Cons

Re: management. I feel like there is no sense in urgency when it comes to getting resources we need to do our job and help the business grow.

    Advice to Management

We understand that a purpose of working in a business like this is to help it grow. But without the resources to do so, makes it difficult. Don't necessarily blame the base level work force for lack of growth. I'd suggest starting with the management and work your way down.

I have been working at AliMed full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity in a changing environment. The company is making the transition from owner-managed to professionally managed and has the mandate to accelerate growth.

    Cons

Changing environments are frightening. It can be frustrating that things don't change fast enough.

    Advice to Management

There are lots of areas to improve upon, but my goal is that every Glass Door review, including mine, can be five stars within the next 12 months.
