I worked at Alice & Olivia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The discount and clothing allowance was good since we could only wear Alice & Olivia clothing to work. Very fashionable with new trends.

    Cons

The company and management is very strict to achieving sales goals. Need to adapt to the selling cultural and language.

"Unprofessional catty environment. Corporate employees scored jobs based on favoritism/ personal friendships."

    Pros

Employees were encouraged to wear clothes so great discount/ clothing allowance.

    Cons

Extremely micromanaged by upper management. Corporate employees are a team of young adults not qualified to hold their positions who run around demeaning store employees. They're unprofessional, petty, and immature. Salaried employees are expected to work 50+ hour work week and are threatened to be docked pay if they are even slightly below 40 hours (which is illegal). Employees are also expected to work through their lunch breaks and are manually clocked out for breaks whether they are able to take them or not (also illegal). The company has high turnover so stores are always short staffed, leaving the retail teams scrambling to cover shifts. Terrible communication. Goals are unrealistic and unachievable. Super aggressive selling culture.

    Advice to Management

Grow up and take the time to support your teams by listening to their concerns rather than claiming everything's an excuse. If 20 people are all saying the same thing, maybe it's not them - it's you! Some formal HR training would be helpful before someone actually reports the company to the department of labor for all the illegal and unprofessional activities that go on.

    Pros

    - beautiful clothes
    - clothing allowance is a plus
    - build your client base
    - establish good relationships with customers

    Cons

    -everything else
-completely unrealistic and unachievable sales goals
    -no respect for employees
-employees are over worked and over stressed
-commission and clothing allowance is based on reaching unattainable sales goal
-upper management practically requires a 50+ hour work week whether you get paid for it or not
    -inconsistent
-requirement of meeting upt, adt, client dollar goal and consignment goal along with ridiculous sales goal; failure to do so (even if it's upt one month and client dollars the next) results in write up
-3 to 4 write ups (depending on favoritism) results in termination
-upper management does not listen to feedback from employees
-New York store employees get all the opportunity
-management is flaky, catty, and wishy washy when it comes to promoting sales associates
    -OVERLY aggressive selling style
    -zero work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Learn to actually value and listen to your employees and what they may be able to bring to the business. Be consistent, be kind, be caring. Understand that it's just clothing. We aren't saving people's lives. Don't take it so seriously.

    Pros

Beautiful Product in combination with a great employee discount.

    Cons

Where do I start? Upper Management is extremely unprofessional. If you enjoy being micromanaged by young adults who are not qualified to hold the positions they have than this is the place for you. Unrealistic sales goals, aggressive selling culture. Corporate positions are filled based off of friendships/relationships as opposed to qualifications and experience.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest formal Human Resource training for all upper management especially district leaders and corporate. Remember people work for people. lead by example. I would also suggest to top corporate to really analyze who they have in positions of leadership and reach out to the employees that report to them and see how they feel.
