I worked at Alice & Olivia full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people I worked with on a daily basis. Creativity. Training and knowledge

    Cons

Soooo many to do lists from district managers + corporate, communication expectations based on level of hierarchy, asking employees to oversee job duties for 9 months + more that are not in job description, operationally hard labor, long hours

    Advice to Management

Know who your strong employees are and make sure they are happy. Make daily to dos less so your managers can focus on building the business

I worked at Alice & Olivia full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Was able to stay up on current style trends. They have beautifully decorated stores. Really great clothes and party dresses. Made a few good friends at my time there that I will keep in touch with.

    Cons

Was micromanaged and was expected to micromanage those under me. Led to poor morale in the store and employee turn over. Long hours expected, hard to have life work balance. Upper management was very cliquey and favorites promoted over talent.

    Advice to Management

Hire good people and let them do their jobs. Read the Wikipedia entry for Micromanagement.

I worked at Alice & Olivia full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-New-feeling, beautiful offices with great views, kitchens, tech, and supplies -Good discount -Extravagant office-wide birthday parties are great for morale

    Cons

-Frequent, very long hours (12 - 14hr days are not uncommon) -No training program for new employees -Certain teams have management that is hostile, and employees are berated publicly -Open floorplan/no cubicles results in limited workspace and no privacy -Infrastrcture/operations have not caught up with growth, resulting in obstacles that interfere with efficiently meeting crucial deadlines

    Advice to Management

New employee training is a must. Good work/life balance should be achievable at all levels (even if increasing head-count is required). Managers should be trained on hostile work environments, and on how to be positive, non-volatile leaders.
