    Pros

Compensation is higher than direct companies however it's a very racist and sexist organization.

    Cons

Not the best career option for a woman of color. Managing Directors are not encouraging, or welcoming of differing opinions.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to branch out and connect with millennium employees and/or anyone offfering a differing opinion. Change happens when you listen.

I worked at AlixPartners full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a senior experienced Director, I had a chance do perform so really impactful work with some great co-workers. This is not about pyramids, this is about knowing what to do and doing it! It is put up time. The partners I worked with all understood the value I could add and, together, we helped the clients succeed.

    Cons

Remember that this is a consulting firm so get over the work life balance. Your client is likely coming out of some form of distressed work-out. They expect that you will be there to make them successful.

    Advice to Management

Eric Hillenbrand was a great boss! George Hughes is a real pro!

"Calling experienced professionals, not the place to be for inexperienced B-school recent grads"

    Pros

    - Highly impactful projects. Board and CEO level access to high impact projects.
    - Perception with clients is that a "top-tier" firm tells us what to do and leaves, AlixPartners will tell us what to do - then do it.
    - Firm is growing fast fast fast. Turning down work because we just down have available people.
    - Perceived "higher compensation" is more a function of upside-down pyramid design of firm. The design of the firm is to have lots of experienced/senior director-level consultants. Very few, fresh out of B-school cadets. The result is high-impact work that generates significant results. Great if you're a seasoned consultant. Not the place to be if you don't have many years of experience under your belt and need training.
    - Strength of the firm (by design) is the director level. Most of the directors at the firm would be partners in other firms or senior executives in industry

    Cons

    - Awesome firm if you're a white male, below-par to terrible if you're not
    - Partner = sells work, nothing else. Firm completely lacks a 360 review process. Partners esentially have zero incentive to develop people or even be a decent human being.
    - Work-life balance is non-existent. Regional staffing, weekends, or family time mean nothing to the firm.
    - Titles are not uniform across the firm. In general, a director in TRS or EI is light-years more seasoned and valuable to a client than their counterpart in IMS or FAS.
    - Most partners are actually terrible at delivering work. Their job (by design) is to sell.

    Advice to Management

    - Top quality directors are leaving the firm for other firms because AlixPartners doesn't seem to understand that partner means more than sells work.

I have been working at AlixPartners full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting and challenging projects. High impact work across the corporate landscape. Good growth prospects. Entrepreneurial culture - you take ownership of your own success. The people: by and large smart, professional, and accessible.

    Cons

Compensation does not keep up with market rates for those who stick around. New hires in decent market conditions do appreciably better in total comp than top performers who have been around for 5+ years.

    Advice to Management

Manage compensation better for long term employees to foster loyalty. Too often, the only option for top performers to realize their current market value, is to leave.
