I have been working at AlixPartners full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is very intelligent that works at AlixPartners. Some of the results the firm produces for its clients (and the methodology behind these results) are truly amazing. The firm has grown incredibly over the last 5-10 years. The impetus for a lot of this growth is an expansion of service-offerings in which the foundation of the firm - turnarounds and restructurings - is no longer the largest revenue driver. I highly recommend working here.

    Cons

The AlixPartners slogan, "When it really matters," means that sometimes the consultants are expected to work very long hours under a lot of stress in order to produce meaningful results for their clients "when it really matters."

I worked at AlixPartners full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Competitive salary, great bonuses, company trip to Vegas, great benefits, environment full of bright individuals.

    Cons

Hours were ridiculous, 60-80 a week. Expected to work from home after normal work hours almost daily and on weekends to bend to clients' last second demands.

Automation in their infrastructure was pretty much non existent.

I worked at AlixPartners full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - exciting projects
    - big clients
    - lots of interaction with senior employees
    - great people
    - good benefits

    Cons

    - compensation is a black box
    - hard to advance
    - HR is a nightmare
    - siloed
    - no support from senior management
    - will screw you over when they get the chance
    - not a place to be if you like feeling appreciated as an employee
    - no professional development whatsoever

    Advice to Management

Learn how to treat your employees like adults.

Instead of having HR approach people teach employees how to directly communicate with people they are having a problem with.

Hire more admin assistants. Analysts should not have to change the colors of text boxes in powerpoint.

If you promise something when you are giving the offer, stick to it. Don't take a clause out of the contract they have signed and then have them sign the new contract by telling them there is a, "typo."

I worked at AlixPartners (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Higher pay than what you might get from a competitor as there’s not much else AlixPartners can offer to recruit to tier candidates

    Cons

Whether you’re an experienced professional looking to make a move, or a fresh grad looking to start a new career, avoid AixPartners save you have no other options. I was recruited out of a top tier big 4 and was sold on a promise of a better working environment, greater autonomy, wider engagement selection, etc. AlixPartners has failed to deliver in almost every regard. At best, it is a third tier consulting firm and offers no real advantages over its higher tiered competitors. Contrary to its marketing material, the firm’s sole goal is to produce a higher volume of billable hours rather than quality client service. Utilization rules the day, and opportunities to move, laterally or vertically, are extremely limited due to the small nature of the firm. Alix however does not offer any advantage that you’d expect from a smaller firm, indeed the level of bureaucracy found here is comparable to a municipal agency. If you have an offer from one of the higher tiered firms, you’d do your career a no small favor by passing on AlixPartners.

    Pros

High salaries for early career individuals with relatively little working knowledge and even higher wages for mid to late career individuals with no experience other than consulting

    Cons

High salaries for early career individuals with relatively little working knowledge and even higher wages for mid to late career individuals with no experience other than consulting -- There is little evidence that this firm can actually justify their cost.

    Advice to Management

Hire some MD's that actually know something other than selling and stop relying on 20 and 30-somethings to do most of the work. Finally, stop making unrealistic promises to perspective clients and never coming close to attainment.

    Pros

Great smart people, quick fast paced environment, client interaction from the first day for all levels of staff. Low base but compensates for it with overtime.

    Cons

No formal learning. No handholding. Some of the folks are micromanagers which is why it is important to pick the directors who you will be working for. No choice in the case that you want to work for. NO WORK LIFE BALANCE.

    Advice to Management

Encourage younger folks to take on a bigger role, give opportunities, have a formal training learning, mentoring program to help develop people.
