Approach to layoffs did not reflect “team values” whatsoever

    Aug 3, 2022 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Amazing, mission-driven team. -Opportunity to serve a meaningful cause

    Cons

-Really important decisions were made without inclusion of the folks that would be most significantly impacted. Major changes were communicated in inappropriate contexts at least 3x during my 1.5 years here (Major restructuring that your manager doesn’t even know about being announced during AllHands, is one example) -Layoffs of almost 1/2 the company via a zoom meeting (that lasted less than 5 minutes?) with no warning whatsoever. Completely opposite of the values that were hardcore preached from day 1 of arriving here. Extremely abrupt and disappointing

The company has changed for worse since layoffs

    Pros

Fully embrace WFH. Good work life balance (for product and engineering). The remaining people have a strong dedication to rare.

    Cons

New product direction focuses on a new sass portal rather than the patients. Micromanagement from the new leadership.

Tech layoffs - too good to be true

Jun 13, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great coworkers, seemingly great benefits (that they can’t afford?), flexible WFH and very supportive of work life balance.

    Cons

Company laid off about 1/3 of the employees with 0 warning or indication. These layoffs happened at all levels and for all teams. Some employees had been there years, some literally only 1 day (why encourage someone to switch jobs and then let them go immediately?). Teams were actively recruiting and then they laid off a huge portion of the company.

    Mass Layoff

Jun 7, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Remote first culture, friendly employees, great pay.

    Cons

Mass layoff without any transparency. A lot of us were blindsided and surprised by it all - meanwhile 40% of us were let go, and leadership gets promoted. There were employees who literally worked 1 full day and got let go. Leadership failed us!

Best Company I have ever worked for

    Mar 31, 2022 - Senior Data Engineer
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Amazing mission - helping people with rare disease is at the heart of what we do. What could be more rewarding? People-focused - people matter most at Allstripes and management champions this. Balanced culture - emotional intelligence, personal well-being, team connection and results driven productivity are blended into the active Allstripes vibe Empowerment - you can make a difference here. You are encouraged to make the most of yourself and thereby the most for the company.

    Cons

Allstripes is a start up environment. For me this is a pro, but the often uncertain, loosely defined, pivotable environment could be challenging for the less adventurous.

    Best of the best

    Feb 28, 2022 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

I've had the luck and opportunity to work for a lot of great companies. Hands down, AllStripes surpasses them all for three main reasons: every person at AllStripes is mission driven (and an absolute delight to work with); we listen to the communities we serve; our leadership listens to its employees and is transparent about what it learns. It's like this perfect circle of awesomeness and accountability. Another plus is AllStripes has embraced distributed (remote) work, so you get to know and work (plus enjoy weekly donut chats) with super talented folks from all over the country.

    Cons

We are a young company and growing fast. That means change can happen quickly and there can be some growing pains. These don't exceed what I've seen in other startups and AllStripes is committed to learning from these challenges.
