    Positive Outlook

I worked at Allegheny College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A few nice people and the pay was okay for a new professional.

    Cons

Poor leadership, unclear policies, offices didn't want to work together - no community feel. People were promoted (long before I was hired) into positions they are not qualified for lending itself to poor office mission, direction, and leadership. In transition, work will be piled on you without any compensation. Very Very poor work/life balance - there is no opportunity to advocate for yourself in this regard. Meadville is a pretty small town with little to offer.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Allegheny College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close Staff, everyone knows everyone, cheap area to live, opportunities for advancement in staff positions, People tend to care about their work, students are reliable and intelligent

    Cons

everyone knows everyone's business, set in a small town which can get a little claustrophobic, students can be entitled, parents can be overbearing, certain departments are underfunded and it shows,

    Advice to Management

The budget is a huge issues and it needs to be figured out. If you want to raise more money then you are going to have to hire more admissions and development staffs. These staffs then need incentives to do well. The ideals of the institution are great but they sometimes struggle to execute despite having an amazing alumni base.

excessive work hours, working hourly is a better call. The job needs a desperate balance of work and personal life.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Allegheny College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff was amazing - hours were flexible. There were always opportunities to work extra hours if you were doing your job well.

    Cons

There is a lot of paper work. Some people struggled to stay organized and that did not make management happy.

    Advice to Management

Pay students to help with school loans!

I worked at Allegheny College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great supervisors who took great interest in my academic future (I was a student worker) and maintained flexibility for me.

    Cons

I would have liked greater structure at certain points in my academic career, but overall I have very little negative to say.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Allegheny College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working here for admissions at Allegheny is a wonderful experience that is unprecedented towards another college. The application to the real world is apparent and is a prized position through many interviews and courses.

    Cons

With no doubt, being a college student having the most strict work policies along with a the same wage as every other job on campus, is not satisfying. Considering other jobs on campus have the same wage with no work skill, is unfair.

I worked at Allegheny College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This job gives you a rare opportunity to practice walking that thin line between peer and mentor -- something that is incredibly difficult, but a necessary component of life.

    Cons

This is unavoidable, but you will have to be responsible for grown adults who should be responsible for themselves. As a result, I think a lot of people get burnt out doing this kind of work.
