I have been working at Allegheny College part-time

    Pros

Plenty of time to do homework while on shift

    Cons

Limited hours available, had to get a second job to fill my hours available for work study. Only hires freshmen and sophomores so there's less turnover.

I worked at Allegheny College full-time

    Pros

The students are the life blood of the institution.

    Cons

The inability to provide security and stability for faculty, staff and administrators of difference.

    Advice to Management

Cultivate the talent you have and build a brand that will attract and retain educators who all make a difference and will effectively advocate, retain, and support students and staff of color initiatives.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Allegheny College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A few nice people and the pay was okay for a new professional.

    Cons

Poor leadership, unclear policies, offices didn't want to work together - no community feel. People were promoted (long before I was hired) into positions they are not qualified for lending itself to poor office mission, direction, and leadership. In transition, work will be piled on you without any compensation. Very Very poor work/life balance - there is no opportunity to advocate for yourself in this regard. Meadville is a pretty small town with little to offer.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Allegheny College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close Staff, everyone knows everyone, cheap area to live, opportunities for advancement in staff positions, People tend to care about their work, students are reliable and intelligent

    Cons

everyone knows everyone's business, set in a small town which can get a little claustrophobic, students can be entitled, parents can be overbearing, certain departments are underfunded and it shows,

    Advice to Management

The budget is a huge issues and it needs to be figured out. If you want to raise more money then you are going to have to hire more admissions and development staffs. These staffs then need incentives to do well. The ideals of the institution are great but they sometimes struggle to execute despite having an amazing alumni base.
