I have been working at Allegheny Health Network full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My team itself is made up of some very talented, very intelligent people who are willing to go out of their way to help shoulder the enormous burden.

    Cons

Inept Upper Management - Totally lacking vision and the ability to properly prioritize the workload. Work/Life Balance - Absolutely nonexistent. Expect to 12+ hour days just to keep your head above water. Communication - They've never heard of the concept. If you enjoy being kept in the dark and then blamed for it by management, this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Get it together already. Make the tough calls. Take care of your people.

I have been working at Allegheny Health Network

    Pros

Great area to apply and learn additional skills pertaining to different levels of the revenue cycle on the professional and facility side- not micro managed at least in my area and you are able to think outside the box to achieve a more efficient process. Exposure to many different delivery systems - place has potential to be a very good place to a part of

    Cons

Communication is lacking from upper management as well as opportunities. There appear to be many posted job opportunities however you find out that many of these are posted the required days, because the job has been filled prior to the posting. Several good employees are passed over for jobs in favor of the direction of senior management that really don't know the quality of...

I have been working at Allegheny Health Network full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

I liked the people I worked with and the diversity of all of the employees

    Cons

The upper management was divided with their vision and decision making. Due to the merger of Highmark and the hospitals the road ahead was very blurry. They also were laying off a lot of long time employees

    Advice to Management

The upper management was un interested in caring for their loyal employees. This miss trust is observed by the younger employees and chases them out the door, Establish better relationships with the experienced employees and treat them with more respect.

I worked at Allegheny Health Network

    Pros

Good people working hard everyday to do the best they can in the present state of affairs in healthcare. Tuition reimbursement program offered for those who seek growth. Time off and health benefits are on par with other systems.

    Cons

Very weak leadership from upper management. Lack of and/or very little direction and slow if any reply to questions and support requests . Expected to work effectively with low staff ratio. System experiences daily IT issues that will worsen with change over to new system and adequate training. HR dept over worked which contributes to staff issues when trying to fill positions...

    Advice to Management

Give real time feedback and be more hands on/involved with staff. Work with staff, not against staff, to make for a positive rewarding environment for staff and customers. Consider perks to employees for those who are committed and show dedication, such as earning gift card choice for entertainment or personal needs.

I have been working at Allegheny Health Network full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good solid non stop work-out in an 8 hr shift.

    Cons

Low pay, inept upper management and they use you as a work horse for 8 hrs to do non stop physical labor with no breaks -except for 30 min lunch (if that). If you like to make no money, work every other weekend, along with holidays, and crappy benefits than this is the job for you. Go buy your own uniforms and park off site in the ghetto and get bussed in. Also pay your own...

    Advice to Management

Give some praise to good workers! Stop pulling them into the office for non essential things and nit picking on good employees. Lastly, pay your workers a decent salary and then and only then you keep them.

I worked at Allegheny Health Network full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Great team atmosphere for the most part across the entire health system

    Cons

Recent affiliation with Highmark has created an atmosphere of doubt and trust in longevity of employment. Employee satisfaction is eroding. New upper management seems to make sweeping changes without a lot of forethought. Aggressive schedule in place for some impending changes to the electronic environment requires an excessive amount of hours on the job for not a lot of reward...

    Advice to Management

Staffing reductions (layoffs) should be done with the input of the direct managers affected. This would allow them to offload non-performers rather than hard working, dedicated employees with years of service.

I have been working at Allegheny Health Network

    Pros

Great people to work with and morale is good. Compensation is fair. Hours are flexible. Benefits are on par with other health care systems. Much improvement since Highmark's potential buyout.

    Cons

Fee to park, but it's the same as other hospitals Company does not currently match retirement contributions More communication from upper management would help.

    Advice to Management

I've worked at both UPMC and WPAHS...the morale is horrible at UPMC and I was made to feel expendable if their quota was not reached. Keep expanding and acquiring new doctors and hopefully the people of Allegheny County will finally realize which health system is better and more economical.
