I have been working at Allegheny Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Career advancement opportunities seem positive. Overtime available is nice. My actual job duties are perfectly fair.

    Cons

Ive never worked in union environment so it's taking some getting used to.

    Advice to Management

Maybe some managers should focus on being in charge more than being friends with the employees. Also i see lots of processes that could be updated to run more efficiently.

I have been working at Allegheny Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay and Benefits are a livable wage. Co-Workers for the most part are helpful and good people. Direct foreman good people for the most part.

    Cons

Forget about "Relentless Innovation" as far as improving or updating any of the machinery or improving efficiency threw technology. Those things cost money and are to hard to do. The upper management idea of Relentless Innovation is cutting man hours and doubling or tripling management and hourly work loads and expecting the same quality that does not happen. As far as any real knowledge based training it is hit or miss at best.

    Advice to Management

Quit trying save pennies while the dollars go by. Run it till it breaks is the wrong way to operate. Quit treating hourly employees like dumb cattle listen once in a while they do have years of experience.

I worked at Allegheny Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity for learning new skills, advancement opportunities were mostly internal.

    Cons

Constant fluctuation in demand, Facility was shut down due to acquisition of imported material.

    Advice to Management

If more involved in day to day tasks may have been more effective in cost reductions and improvements.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Great coworkers.

    Cons

Company has no respect or regard for its employees you are only a number to them. A very greedy company that will do whatever it takes to save money even if that means putting hundreds out of jobs. Don't expect to have a home life when you work for this company.

At the Washington Plate Division, I felt that we had the appopriate level of mangement hands on/hands off supervision, and were allowed to deveop our own order/customer management style. Great group of Technical, Operations, Planning and Support poeple to work with.

    Cons

I am not sure that upper upper management recognizes or appreciates the talent of the people working at this facility.
