I worked at Allen & Gerritsen full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Mostly good people. Free meals. Happy hour on Fridays. Summer hours.

    Cons

Unless you are going to work on the Blue Cross account you are considered expendable and unworthy of working there. Resources are pulled from other accounts to work on BCBS and suffer as a result. The new business department can't close new deals and blames it on the prospective client. Office hours are 8:30-5:30 but if you're not pulling a 10-11 hour day or working on the weekends...

    Advice to Management

Take care of your junior associates. They work extremely hard and do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I worked at Allen & Gerritsen full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

None. Free food in the kitchen, open vacation time doesn't make up for all the time and effort you will put in.

    Cons

Andrew Graff has no idea how to run a company. And would be trying to sell shoes instead of advertising if he thought that would make him more money. He's constantly changing direction from information he gets from out side consultants or whomever has his ear that given day. Company has changed so much towards trying to be a digital shop however creative head hasn't a clue how to work with clients or her staff. Just because...

I worked at Allen & Gerritsen

    Pros

    - Some amazing people here. Friendly, funny, hard working, smart. - Great policies like unlimited vacation, maternity leave, remote work flexibility - A big focus on culture (though less so nowadays than years past) - Decent compensation

    Cons

    - The "no a**holes allowed" policy was very true for awhile, but not anymore. New managers brought people who didn't fit the culture. Also, this policy never seemed to apply to the new business people. - Though the attitude of the agency is free thinking and independent, it's still very much a corporation on the inside. Tons of venn diagrams at company meetings and red tape...

    I worked at Allen & Gerritsen full-time

    Pros

Nice neighborhood (in Philly and Boston). Good people work there...at least at the mid to lower ranks. Some cool stuff going with video and labs but the agency doesn't seem like a fit for those departments.

    Cons

Can't hang on to their clients....even the bad ones. Winning new business is a struggle and non existent. Not sure how they will survive this. CEO needs to let people make decisions without his intervention. He makes ALL final decisions related to almost everything and that doesn't reflect well on their track record.

    Advice to Management

Play with passion. Stop going through the the motions when it comes to managing clients and pitching new business. CEO needs to let the leaders actually lead. Pick a direction and go for it...words like "inventiveness" and "innovation" have no meaning unless you give them meaning.

I worked at Allen & Gerritsen for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fantastic people that are fun to be with and learn from, great mentorship program, exciting to see and do new things, helpful management and open-door policy with CEO. Almost always extra food/drink lying around.

    Cons

Still some lasting tensions with acquired Philly office caused by strange reporting structures across offices, new business hasn't been won in a while and seems out of touch with what the rest of the agency does, strategy team is a GODDAMN DISASTER thanks to some incompetent leadership across offices. Branded entertainment division is a confusing, profitless over-investment of...

    Advice to Management

Bridge the gap between new business and creative - they're pitching stuff that they're not excited about. Stop being so concerned with being a cool place to work and actually make it a place to WORK.
