I have been working at Allen & Overy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

great office, great canteen, great coffee, great gym, supper friendly people, great resources, high quality work, best people to learn from

    Cons

long hours sometimes which you would expect, sometimes due to the structure of the office you can be quite isolated from other members of the team. Otherwise nothing bad to say. Oh and they don't have smashed avocado as an option for breakfast- boooo.

I worked at Allen & Overy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The quality of work is good - good cases and good clients because of the reputation that the firm has. There are also some great people especially in the offices outside London who are such a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

The firm does not value its people. Certainly when you are at a more junior level you are viewed as disposable. This has led to a high level of churn. There is also amongst some partners a real contempt for (at worst) or lack of interest in (at best) others. This means that the firm fails to get the best from its people. There is also too much of a tendency to rest on laurels and discourage entrepreneurialism.

    Advice to Management

I would encourage the firm to invest more in the talent it has. The recent trend to commodify its people especially in the London office has created significant dissatisfaction and left many people in the position where as soon as something better comes up, they would rather leave. It is important that this is tackled. Otherwise you will create more and more resentment within the business.
