    Pros

Discount , nice area team , friendly staff and customers. Own brands are very high quality . They very happy to dispense your family prescriptions , for obvious reasons .

    Cons

If your face fits ! Poor management, favouritism . Don't follow recruitment, sickness and disciplinary processes consistently or fairly . If a job is advertised , it's always filled , prior to interview . Most of the management teams are bullies .

    Advice to Management

To take a good look at high turnover in certain stores , and investigate why , rather than brush it under the carpet . Appreciate valued staff .

I worked at Alliance Boots full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The teams you are working with are all really educated, experienced and want to add great value to the department, region and company.

The benefits are great - company discount card really makes a difference when purchasing any products.

    Cons

Line managers really don't care about their teams development and actually cuts any creativity incase it shows them up.

Salaries are well below industry standards especially when you are expected to do a lot of work in return.

When you work for the regional support teams, there isn't much career prospects or flexibility.

It's just not a company that values it's staff

    Advice to Management

You need to create more career paths for regional support staff in HR teams.
Give them more directions/training workshops instead of making them a PA role for the store managers.

    Pros

Amazing people to work with, in it together mentality. No weekends, reasonably flexible working hours (Between 8 and 5). Staff discount card

    Cons

Under appreciated, over worked, under paid. Constant moving on goalposts. Execs and upper management couldn't be further out of touch with what's happening

I have been working at Alliance Boots full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good career progression for those that can talk the talk
Good induction when they are delivered
Opportunity to learn new skills. Training and courses available to book on but these are limited to the corporate arena in which certain departments operate and are either necessity for new beginners or there to improve one's own development by delivering workshops
I'd advise taking the low pay available for the work you endure purely for the experience you need and move on to a company that pays better for the workload you are expected to deliver.

    Cons

There is a cyclical process every few years of recruitment and staff losses resulting in knowledge exposure in what is known of the proceses
Internal staff hopping between roles in short periods
Limited investment in robust IT delivery due to offshore expenses/budget cutting. 'Common sense' fixes are often dismissed for elaborate, over-budget concepts that more often than not fail to deliver due to complex IT infrastructure, data flows, complexity of teams involved, lack of communication and understanding and mostly, over everything- lack of accountability of any party involved.
Prepare yourself for a nonsensical environment of corporate buzzwords and people-blockers. If you're 'too useful' you may also find that you are internally blocked from progression. Best of luck. If you manage to talk the talk you'll find a way to move out of the current predicament you're in professionally

    Advice to Management

Respect the quality of the people that you recruit and are worth retaining and stop letting unqualified and ill-educated managers make decisions based on what they think they know. Stop hiring bosses that tell people what to do and start hiring leaders that are actually visionaries with purpose.

I worked at Alliance Boots (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great staff training and updates on knowledge. Team spirit is what keeps everybody going and most stores have great work relationships. Technology is up to date and processes are good when you have enough staff to follow them that is

    Cons

Far to much pressure. Organisation expect and allow staff to work numerous unpaid hours to stay on top of workload. Front line staff have more patient care than hierarchy therefore they work unpaid hours to make sure patients don't go without. This is recognised and ignored by higher managers. Talent retention is poor and many talented staff leave without so much as a goodbye.

    Advice to Management

Try to retain your talent. Spend more money on staffing your stores and the strategy implementation you currently spend it on won't be needed as the KPIs will improve if you take the pressure away from staff. Absence levels will also reduce as stress levels are ridiculous

The brands - from Boots to no7 to soltan to botanics to retail to B2b
    The scale of the business

    Cons

The scale of the business means that decisions often taken out of hands
If you can not cope with change not the business for you

    Advice to Management

key alive the roots of the Boots brand and try to keep the brand identity versus the alliance walgreens machine
