    Pros

    Learned a lot related to IT and customer/employee interactions.

    Cons

    Must meet a 15 hour/week requirement and be enrolled in school full time. Can be difficult to make this work depending on school schedule

    Pros

    Base pay. Good Facility. Good Location.

    A lot of moves and change in how you are paid based without employee input.

    Pros

    Family friendly company. You get a chance to interact with top management. decent benefits especially 3 weeks paid-time-off from start.

    Cons

    Weak HR as far as career planning for employees! They do not promote from within. Even though, there are a couple of women in top management, they do not think highly of women and you can feel that attitude.

    Advice to Management

    Trust in your employees and have plan for their career advancement. promote from within.

    Pros

    I worked in the Leaf department where you are hired seasonally. The tobacco buyers were always positive and treated their customers more than fair. Awesome company!

    Cons

    I can't think of any downsides. I wish my job was not seasonal, but that's just the way the tobacco business goes.

    Advice to Management

    No cons in my opinion.

    8 hours per day 5 days a week, night shift

    Cons

    Picking tobacco, purchases, processes and putting the tobacco in the right spot

    Advice to Management

    It was alright. I quit because it was seasonal and I chose to come to Job Corps

    It's a good job it has benefits,also,you can also learn more about tobacco and market sales

    Pros

    Good people, friendly atmosphere and OK pay and benefits.

    Cons

    Not much room to grow specially if you are female. The internal job posting are not clear cut. Promotions are based on politics not personal accomplishments, Raises are minimal and do not keep with inflation.

    Advice to Management

    Avoid group think!

    I have been working at Alliance One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    It's a fairly casual work environment, jeans-Friday, quarterly luncheons, good benefits, very flexible with time off for doctor or other appointments. We have the latest in computer technology and equipment, good systems, and everyone works well together.

    Cons

    The same people always seem to get the promotions. There is no succession planning. Some of the bosses are real jerks. There is very little opportunity for training in something new as they say it has to relate to your current position. They do support tuition reimbursement though. Bonuses that once paid in the 24% range now pay in the 5% range, if you are lucky and they never update you on where you stand versus target-stretch so they don't have to pay when the time comes. There have been several restructurings in the last few years as they do away with almost entire departments (SOX, Internal Audit). With FY14's $87MM loss attributable to farmer bad debt/loans (many wonder if these are real and if some people aren't just lining their pockets) many senior folks are being shown the door under the guise of retirement. It's not the same company I went to work for many years ago. The company is starting to look into new ventures (E-liquids) but I'm afraid it's a little too late to diversify.

    Advice to Management

    It's time for management that's been there longer than 15 years to move on.

    Pros

    You are able to gain insightful information about the tobacco industry and how to grow.

    Cons

    Many of the lower level positions are seasonal, and layoffs are unpredictable.

    Advice to Management

    More young, innovative employees should be considered for managerial positions.
