    Pros

Individual contributor seen as valuable and indispensable to the team. Made to feel as part of family and on the critical path. Every day was unique from managing tradeshow events, supporting business development initiatives, and analyzing strategic objectives to participating in barrel testing, professional development, and vendor selection process.

    Cons

Employees don't seem to have long tenures at this company. It seems that if you are not well liked (and you may not know if you aren't) you will be cut from the team without warning. They go through a purge almost every year where they get rid of the unchosen ones.

    Advice to Management

Be honest in your review feedback. Don't candy coat or set people up for failure by creating a false sense of security.

I have been working at Alliant Techsystems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great product. Mostly good people working within the confines they have. Many of the brightest employees who received training in the field or from somewhere else, not ATK. Good 401K match.

    Cons

Poor medical/dental benefits but most employees don't realize because have been there as part of the good old boy network for so long. Surprised at the many husband/wife teams with 20+ years of employment. Too many major management changes to name. Employees joked about how many layoffs they had survived.

    Advice to Management

Bring in outside consultant not to manage the lower levels of efficiency, but to manage the upper levels of efficiency and to coach managers on HOW TO MANAGE! Follow up on engagement feedback received from employees a few years ago. Take it again. MANAGE!

I worked at Alliant Techsystems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They pay well, their products are good. At the lower levels, they have some really good and talented people at every site.

    Cons

Management from the top to the bottom is terrible. Constant changes, decisions made based on little or no data, and a good 'ol boys club of who gets advanced. Customers constantly tell me they hate working with ATK but the products are good. It's a make-the-numbers-first company, so know that if you go there. And the numbers weren't looking that good.

    Advice to Management

Take some accountability for your poor performance. You aren't doing the employees any favors, and if the job market was better more would be leaving.

    Pros

The product line and customer base are top notch (military munitions and global militaries.

    Cons

The culture and work environment is miserable. There is no room for innovation or original thought, no matter how much sense a new idea may make. The emperor in this organization still thinks he is wearing beautiful clothes.

    Pros

Nice office space in the Mesa Arizona facility

    Cons

There's a culture in the mesa, Az office that thrive in the desire to managment people by fear. If mistakes happen which in any orgazation they do, manager will reprimand or fire the person that made the mistake. Also the company is very volitial and have had several round of layoff since 2009.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employee to makes mistake and learn in the process.
