I have been working at Allina Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, genuine people, community involvement, whole person and patient centered care, large not-for-profit system with lots of opportunity

    Cons

Generally speaking the bigger the ship, the slower it moves (but that's all large systems!)

I have been working at Allina Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very upbeat people at United Hospital.

    Cons

Lack of career opportunities for non-medical positions.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to non-medical staff. They are the backbone of your infrastructure. Create a career ladder and inter-departmental lateral moves and promotions for administrative positions, or you will lose great people.

  5. "Loved Allina. The union & certain supervisors made it difficult, but Allina as a whole was great"

I worked at Allina Health (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Family feel, small community type hospital. People truly care about the patients and co-workers. Clean, well kept, and free parking.

    Cons

Union. Nursing union is only there to help incompetent nurses. They will take money from each check, but if you truly need support they leave you hang.

I have been working at Allina Health part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have great benefits, and most work well with you if you are going to school. They help pay for part of your schooling as well if it is related to healthcare. I've switched departments and have had two very good managers that were great at listening to my concerns and I could tell genuinely care about me. I work in a smaller hospital in southern Minnesota and the president of the hospital makes a point to learn every single employees name at the hospital which is about 300-400 people. They treat their employees to BBQs and Christmas parties. They have a seniority system so people who have been with Allina longer have priority over which hours they would like to work or open positions over external employees which can sort of be a con if you are a new hire. If you refer someone to work for Allina then they give you a $300 bonus. Their training is pretty good and if you have to drive to the cities for training they give you the IRS compensation for gas which is I think 54¢ a mile.

    Cons

Their Christmas bonus is sort of a cheap gift where the employees that been there longer said they used to have really good bonuses/ gifts. Other employees can sometimes cause drama for you or they get upset because of the seniority system in place.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, I think they are doing great!

I worked at Allina Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staff take care of each other, welcoming and helpful

    Cons

Poor work/life balance, pays lower than other Twin City organization, still a very bitter post strike atmosphere and it's been almost a year

    Advice to Management

Work with staff to avoid the next strike. Administration and leadership are not visible to the direct care staff.
