I worked at Allscripts full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Intelligent, hardworking fellow employees. A company that overall strives to make healthcare a much more effective, successful, and beneficial industry.

    Cons

A culture comprised of many mergers and acquisitions led by executives who have made horrendous business decisions with little regard to business impact. This is a company that varies to such an extent that an accurate assessment varies by business unit.

    Pros

Great people. Work you do is important and makes you feel like you are making a difference in healthcare.

    Cons

Not enough room for advancement, management is reluctant to promote and give raises.

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they are worth based on value they add instead of following some arbitrary formula that caps raises.

I worked at Allscripts (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, great benefits, and in general a very good atmosphere in which to work. Management attempts to be very transparent

    Cons

Lack of clear vision and how to get there. Use of Six Sigma style evaluations. Too many developers hired as Seniors who aren't really senior.

    Advice to Management

Although collaboration is a good thing, too much of it is a bad thing. Stop making the logical fallacy that since the best teams in the world are self organizing, that all self organizing teams will be their best.

I have been working at Allscripts full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has improved a lot. Some teams are great to work with but some are a real challenge - demanding lots of overtime to meet unrealistic schedules

    Cons

Financials still focus on bookings (sales) because company has a hard time turning them into actual revenue.

    Advice to Management

Get the business units to support each other so the same functionality is not being recreated in multiple business units

I worked at Allscripts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Allscripts believes in strong life/work balance which showed in everything from their support of telecommuting to delivery of benefits.

    Cons

Managers and supervisors never seemed to have an overall plan or goal when approaching work or their people.

    Advice to Management

Take greater interest in who you hire for managers and supervisors. Make certain their goals parallel Allscripts, not theirs.
