I worked at Allscripts (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has good health benefits and you have the option to work from home.

    Cons

Very Long work hours 50-70-90 - yes 90 hour work week. You are demanded to work whatever hours is needed to meet the timeline. No appreciation for your efforts. Not even a thank you. Performance review-received an average rating for all the efforts. Meanwhile, management receives quarterly bonuses for basically doing nothing save for being a task master. They will work you until you just can't stand it. The result is that people are jumping ship en-mass.

    Advice to Management

Realize that is it not management that makes the company work. Start rewarding and appreciating the staff that actually does the work before it is too late.

    I worked at Allscripts full-time

    Pros

It was a job. So glad I am at a different employer.

    Cons

So many to list. Micromanagement. Lots of pressure from upper managers because clients are so frustrated with the software they take it out on all of us. Lots of discrimination within the business. I overheard one of the leaders use the N-word. Very absurd and unprofessional place to work. This company is always going through a lawsuit. Their clients hate the software and they "cheat" their clients by not providing effective tech support.

    Advice to Management

Stop Micromanagement. Lack of diversity; company is racist towards black people. This company is known for hiring a bunch of candidates at one time and soon laying off those same candidates. Very difficult to grow.

    Pros

None. This was by far the worst experience in my 20 year career.

    Cons

Beware: If you've previously worked for Allscripts and would like to list them on your resume, they will NOT verify your past employment. They flat out refuse. I had to request tax transcripts to prove I was a previous employee, which took many weeks and delayed my ability to begin a new position. This is a nasty, crooked company for many reasons, however this one takes the cake!

    Advice to Management

None. This company is digging their own grave and has been for years.

    Pros

Some flexibility, lots of learning, some great people to work with, decent benefits

    Cons

Terrible work life balance, unrealistic expectations, gender bias, no appreciation, lack of stability/high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees well and show appreciation. Provide training for new hires and when new processes occur. Stability would help improve employee morale. Fix management and leadership issues.

I have been working at Allscripts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is ok, not great. Location is close to my home.

    Cons

Benefits went from bearable to terrible this year.
Nepotism is in full effect - new managers/directors come in trash current state, hire their friends and family at much higher rates, promote them shortly afterward, while the rest of us keeping systems and projects running get nothing. In many cases, they have very limited skills and are only expected to check boxes.
WORK-LIFE BALANCE is nonexistent. I've been told by several managers to work weekends regularly or to work through holidays. New director just told staff he has no problem with staff who wants to work 70+ hrs a week and in fact encourages it!
Finally, management doesn't even take the time to say Hi or talk to employees. We have several leaders from out of town who visit bi-monthly, but don't even take the time to say Hi even once a year!

    Advice to Management

Read about differences between leading vs managing. Communicate. stop re-organizing every 6-9 months. finish and COMMUNICATE the previous changes and accountabilities. Checking boxes and hiring non-technical staff is NOT how you run a technical PMO. Invest in your current people, before bringing in your friends and family.

I worked at Allscripts full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At its core, there are some very motivated people at Allscripts. Unfortunately, employee turnover is rampant as are the nearly continuous SG&A cuts.

    Cons

    There is no upward mobility
There is no integration across software platforms
They continue to fall behind market leaders EPIC, Cerner and even Meditech
The company is fighting for relevancy

    Advice to Management

Its hard to win when most of the senior leadership has been turned over from other healthcare IT companies for not delivering. Take inventory of the really good leaders in the company and let them lead at an executive level.
