I have been working at Allscripts full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Jeans every day of the week if you want

    Cons

I don't think anyone REALLY likes it here. Perceptions and politics rule. Very much a good ole boy environment. Management is absolutely terrible. I have never seen so many clueless greedy morons scramble to save a dying company. It's actually pretty fascinating to watch. No one cares about quality of the product or integrity, and now they wonder why customers don't like us. Developer friends tell me all the best have been leaving for years and the products are riddled with bugs. The high departure rates of employees and customers bear this out.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company or resign. Creating a quality product and providing value and support to customers is the way to run a successful company that employees enjoy working for.

    Pros

Nice place to work. Office environment is friendly. Work is meaningful. Opportunity to learn and ability to move up career path.

    Cons

Not enough effective communication, which impacts project timeline, project effectiveness and morale. Need to improve communication across teams and projects.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication across different teams. Allow non-managers to take part in decision process.

Divisions too "silo-ed"; support from one team to another is often difficult to coordinate.

    I worked at Allscripts full-time

    Pros

It was a job. So glad I am at a different employer.

    Cons

So many to list. Micromanagement. Lots of pressure from upper managers because clients are so frustrated with the software they take it out on all of us. Lots of discrimination within the business. I overheard one of the leaders use the N-word. Very absurd and unprofessional place to work. This company is always going through a lawsuit. Their clients hate the software and they "cheat" their clients by not providing effective tech support.

    Advice to Management

Stop Micromanagement. Lack of diversity; company is racist towards black people. This company is known for hiring a bunch of candidates at one time and soon laying off those same candidates. Very difficult to grow.

    Pros

I loved my time at Allscripts. It was probably the best job I've ever had. I got to experience so much and see so much.

    Cons

Would be nice to have more of a work/life balance. After having a baby, it was too hard to travel all the time. I wish there were part-time options, because I could definitely travel 50% of the time.

    Advice to Management

    consider part-time employees.
