I have been working at Almac Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Although salaries start low, depending on your business unit it is possible to earn good pay rises at the end of each year based on performance. Almac provide a lot of benefits to their employees, and arrange an annual 'fun day' for employees to take their families to. Almac provide several benefits through business partnerships too, including Microsoft HUP and SSE Arena tickets.

    Cons

Salaries are lower than the UK, the ROI and even other companies in NI. There are a number of individuals in middle management whose behaviors do not encourage a pleasant working environment or inspire confidence. Opportunities for advancement are open to internal candidates, but quite often the successful candidate may be a questionable choice.

    Advice to Management

Provide managers with training in basic management practices and technique, there are many individuals who do not need it, but there are many who do.

    I worked at Almac Group

    Pros

Good salary and private healthcare, ability for new starts/graduates to gain experience in lots of techniques very quickly if based in Craigavon.

    Cons

There was limited very limited career development within a smaller site, and difficulties co-operating with other sites due to historically different working practices, and resistance to change.

    Advice to Management

I would consider offering options for secondments to ensure staff feel they are developing their skills and have options for career development.

I worked at Almac Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Stable company, wide range of analytical techniques with lots of experience to gain. Relaxed dress code amongst lab staff (jeans, T-shirt etc). Good perks. Once you get your foot in the door you can move around within the company.

    Cons

Degrading place to work. Management have no respect whatsoever to employees. If you try to use an assertive tone when you disagree with something you're labelled as being aggressive and argumentative! If you want to get somewhere, become a brown noser and sook up to the boss. Communication/listening is expected to be in tip top condition. If you don't communicate/listen in the way that management want you to then... they will come down on you like a ton of bricks! If you stay late to get work done you're labelled as someone who cannot manage time properly. Very strong blame culture! Management always on the witch hunt if they don't think that you are toeing the line with them. Very stressful work environment - no one should ever have to feel the dread of going into work the following day! Also no one should ever have to feel so stressed out that it has a profound affect on health. If management think you're not performing to their expectations they will make no bones about it and make your life a misery! Management think that they are a law onto themselves, they think they're so above it! They are so obsessed with budgets/timelines, that's all they care about. They don't care about employees whatsoever! Frankly, it's no wonder as to why people leave! Company politics leaves a lot to be desired!

    Advice to Management

Start treating employees with respect and not like complete idiots! Also respect people for who they are instead of branding them as useless individuals who cannot do the job!

I worked at Almac Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Gives a great experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, great friendly people (mostly).

    Cons

Training was a bit hectic as they were missing a dedicated trainer at the time. I was meant to be working at one location, however, less than a week before I was due to start I was told I had to move to another. Major inconvenience. Department was under staffed and overworked.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. And don't stick people with phds as just lab technicians. They should be at least analysts!
