    Pros

There are absolutely no Pros. They are complete unfeeling of their office and field staff and too many upper management employees who offers no permanent solution to anything. Horrrible horrible place to work and I mean work!!!

    Cons

Expectations of corporate office are completely unrealistic. Doesn't care about anything except how many admissions there are good or bad. Runs off good management at local branches and is the most micromanaged top heavy company ever experienced in over 35 years

    Advice to Management

    Leave....now!!!!

    Pros

Working with the best team of clinicians I have ever seen. Very fair branch management. Not much else good to say about this company.

    Cons

Corporate management is very condescending towards the employees. Employees opinions for the betterment of the company are completely ignored. The regional directors and higher ups do not realize that healthcare is not black and white. Also you dare not express your opinion to corporate or you will get berated by them. The benefits are horrible and extremely expensive. PTO and salary are nowhere near comparable to the industry standards.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the branch employees. Don't just offer lip service.

I worked at Almost Family full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the patients you come across are great. Coworkers are kind, you aren't stuck in an office all day

    Cons

Poor management, ridiculously high turnover, very high quota, company is constantly cutting the pay rate for visits. No regard for patient centered care. Company is still documenting on paper which means visit sheets and medication profiles are always lost or not filed. Very unsafe work environment

    Advice to Management

    Take care of your nurses

    Pros

Some good people work there. The patients are great, the therapists are great.

    Cons

Management is abusive and disrespectful....just found out the office manager and supervisors are writing falsely positive reviews. The cliniciand, patient and their families used to be important. Very sad.

    Advice to Management

Get new management, supervisors especially. The current 2 need to go.

    Pros

Checks always cleared; Coffee was good

    Cons

poor management, upper management did not care

    Advice to Management

I was in a middle management position for almost 4 years with a strong desire to achieve further longevity with this strong company. I had a lot of issues with the current manager such as verbal threats, foul language, threatening comments about me made to other employees, favoritism and unprofessional behavior. As per the grievance policy, I documented my concerns and fowarded them to the level above this individual (Regional). I have many employees that agreed with what I was saying but never said a word in support. I was told: "please stay...we will help you take care of your concerns." The director would go in her office, close the door and do nothing.
I found her sleeping at her desk on numerous occasions. Well, nothing happened and I was then treated like I was not even a part of the team and that my knowledge did not matter. My integrity as a professional was broken. I eventually made the decision to resign. Fortunately, I was able to find another job that fit me better. I am amazed that the upper management has not changed and that Mederi continues to allow this type of behavior to go on. I am glad I left!

    Pros

Patients and co workers. Otherwise not much else.

    Cons

Horrible management. Stay behind desk barking orders, have no idea what their employees deal with. They change the rules constantly and sometimes from one employee to the next. Pay is below industry average.

    Advice to Management

Get out from your offices and spend a day in your workers shoes. Then maybe you'd have compassion for your employees.

I have been working at Almost Family full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The name "Almost Family". It is one of the largest growing home health companies in the United States. The salary is comparable to other companies. Interviewing is fairly straightforward. The last director has an open door policy. Weekly paychecks and a sizable benefit package.

    Cons

Benefits are every expensive. Field staff are not compensated for travel between patients even if they drive 3 hours for one patient. Patients are over schedule to clinicians with no thought to distance and driving time. Training is computer based and is not sufficient to the job. Middle management micromanage is overly focused on volume not quality. Three different computer programs that are not integrated well. Glitches in the system must be troubleshoot daily. Office under focus investigation by Palmetto (Medicare). Any patient with Medicare and a pulse is admitted even if Hospice appropriate. Staffing hours are never sufficient for the number of patients which directly effects the quality of patient care and staff turnover. Three branch directors in 10 months. When concerns were brought to middle management it was investigated by personnel and the employee was immediately dismissed in retaliation. A co-worker with cancer was terminated a week before her scheduled FMLA.

    Advice to Management

Corporate Compliance Program needs to be emphasized. Ongoing training for all staff that focuses more on the law as opposed to AFAM processes to side step the law.
