I have been working at Almost Family full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

In three short months I will be celebrating my 10th anniversary working for Almost Family Inc. I have enjoyed working with wonderful coworkers. I have watched the company more than double in size over the years. The management is focused on expansion and progressing their technology. This year (2017) the company is planning to move from paper data collection to an electronic point of care system. Almost Family has also contributed $250K to the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. I work for a company I believe in everyday. I believe the company's values and mission to make lives better through home care and to help enable people be able to stay in the homes longer.

    Cons

My only con is the employee health insurance could be less expensive.

    Advice to Management

The management here works to grow the company and make it prosperous. This is good for every employee. It means if you work hard you will always have work to do in a prosperous company with a stable future ahead of it. My advice to management would be to keep improving and keep innovating.

I worked at Almost Family full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I was no longer working grueling hours at a hospital, but working in people's homes. I learned a sense of autonomy I never had in bedside nursing. I had some paper work to ginishare at times, but I has a life. I loved the staff I worked with and loved being out in the field. I worked with some great people and miss them all.

    Cons

Paper charting was long. On call was really tough along with having regular visits planned on top of more emergent patients to be seen.

    Advice to Management

Michelle Raymer was awesome, but she has since moved on. What I can say, is to have nurses hired for weekend work or hire nurses for the on call weekends so your regular nurses get to rest.

I worked at Almost Family (More than a year)

    Pros

Manage your own time. Company is all about educating staff; pay for on-line education. Good pay. As a PRN employee, I found that staff was appreciative of having someone to assist.

    Cons

For PRN staff, taking on more than one new patient a day while making regular home visits can be very overwhelming as there is so much charting required.

    Advice to Management

Give PRN staff the regular home visits, labs, dressing changes and such; allow the full-time staff to assess and sign on new patients.
