I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Laid back with great employees. Work/life balance is great. This job is good for somebody looking to retire, but won't recommend it for new graduates.

    Cons

Low pay and crappy benefits. No structure and high turn over rate. The bonus program is crap. All the money goes the manage senior management. The benefits isn't that great.

    Advice to Management

    Increase engineer salaries

I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-The company is rather stable while retaining a small friendly culture
-There has been quite a bit of autonomy in both of the positions I have held
-The company does as much as it can to retain working employees

    Cons

-Somewhat polarized; difficult to progress without working your way into sales or having a strong engineering background
-Starkly contrasted business units do not integrate well together and make for a confusing and inefficient infrastructure
-Deep rooted political structure makes for erratic workflow cycles

    Advice to Management

The largest challenge in any given day is sorting through what has become a very sprawled out business. By utilizing the existing tools (SAP) in a broader depth much of this frustration could be minimized.

I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time

    Pros

One of the few professional employers in Whatcom County.
A mix of start-up and long-term, stable experiences available.
Co-workers are easy to work with.
Continued growth even through the recession.
    Decent benefits.
Minimum overtime for salaried positions. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Management has no idea what I do on a day-to-day basis.
Management promises one thing to the customer, and expects engineering to make it happen, regardless of what is actually possible.
Management does not listen to its employees.
    Low salary.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your employees. They work directly with the customers, and have valuable insight into customer relationships.

    Pros

A very diverse product portfolio. I had plenty of opportunities to handle and get experience on the many products and applications where they can be used. This was a good place to get started in the back-up power industry.

    Cons

Pay is an issue, of course where I was working had a higher cost of living than where corporate headquarters is located. However, this was known when I first hired on. What I don't understand is how some folks who do not have much experience in this industry seem to think that they are entitled to so much more...

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the differences in COL and the market of labor from which you are hiring

    Pros

Strong market share, no debt, privately held.

    Cons

Bizarrely antiquated management processes, low pay scales, non-existent HR and professional development, little mobility, they treat you like an hourly employee by actually videoing through secret cameras when you come to work

    Advice to Management

Share the wealth. Be accountable. Fire dead weight. Reward performance. Actually empower talent.

I worked at Alpha Technologies full-time

    Pros

Work experience. Because environment is so toxi you learn very fast how to document everything you do.

    Cons

Bad work environment, compensation way below average. People work there because they either know they can't get a job anywhere else or as a jumping board for bigger and better things. Need proof. No one in upper management (no one!!!!) has been hired from within.

    Advice to Management

Start hiring some talend (pay more) and get rid of the dead weight. Alpha is full of people who do not have a clue about how to do their jobs.
