I worked at Altair Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of my co-workers were seriously amazing and inspiring people to work with.

Employees really care about what they're working on, even when it's dry engineering stuff like FEA calculations.

The culture is extremely relaxed, with an excellent work-life balance, flexible hours, and that general feeling that you can approach problems however you want so long as the work gets done in the end in a reasonable timeframe.

Upper management people seem like great guys.

    Cons

For being the company's world headquarters, the main building isn't kept up very well at all. This ranges from trivial things that affect the atmosphere of the work environment like lots of stained carpets, chips in the walls, burned out lights, random empty desks with garbage all over them to work blockers like random frequent building-wide power outages and major heating/cooling issues.

They've been actively moving towards agile development, which benefits management/business people a lot more than the engineers and just ends up slowing down progress.

As others have said, the pay is "meh" at best.

Unless you're at the top or close to the top of the ladder as an engineer, you get treated like a child by IT in regards to your computer equipment.

    Advice to Management

Take some pride in your offices, especially your world headquarters for goodness sake.
