I worked at Altarum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Ability to work from home.

Headquarters is in Ann Arbor, great surrounding environment with a variety of lunch places to pick from.

Always something to do. Never a boring day.

    Great starting PTO.

    Cons

Constant turnover. No job feels like it is safe. (All the good employees are either let go or they find work elsewhere.)

    Poor communication from management.

    No opportunities for career growth.

    Too political.

Low reward for a heavy workload environment.

No sense of accountability from others when a conflict arises.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your employees more and make them feel appreciated. Otherwise, the good ones will continue to find employment elsewhere where they will feel more appreciated.

I worked at Altarum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is an okay place for some people. Some managers are decent, but there is zero career growth or opportunities here.

    Cons

Leadership is crooked and the primary culprits have thankfully left the company to form their own practice. After ripping off the MHS and other clients, the new company which spun off from Altarum is now focusing on VA clients whom they will undoubtedly rip off as well.

    Advice to Management

Some accountability would be a good thing.

I worked at Altarum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart and kind employees, visibility to clients, open office space. Work from home opportunities and work life balance.

Keep in mind Altarum Institute has many branches - this review only holds true for Business Advisory Services

    Cons

Absolutely no females in leadership when there are more than enough qualified experienced women in the office. Very poor culture. No transparency, no communication from leadership. Treats employees as commodities. Pay is minimal for consulting. All levels of employees are expected to produce at Senior levels though pay does not reflect that. No upward movement or learning opportunities because of this. No training or onboarding for new hires (sink or swim mentality).

Run as a business to maximize revenue for the Institute and does not actually care about bettering the health of individuals.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking AT employees and start involving them in discussions. Listen to their suggestions. Employee and respect women!

    I worked at Altarum full-time

    Pros

Relaxed dress code, can work at home, decent technology, some decent people

    Cons

Charge, charge, charge hours. That is the main objective: to bill the government clients as many hours as you can regardless of the amount or quality of work or even if it related to the contract.

    Advice to Management

Be honest, become a true non profit, your salaries are wat too high for a non profit of this size and that makes everyone question your intentions

I have been working at Altarum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone here is very intelligent, knows the work and knows the industry with passion. At first glance of leadership, it appears to be a secret society but actually, everyone is friendly with an open door policy. The environment is very relaxed, mostly because everyone works hard anyway. Flexible and family friendly company.

    Cons

Upward mobility seems to hit a ceiling which can cause valuable employees to leave when they are ready to pursue management positions.

    Advice to Management

Hold on to your employees- everyone is great, intelligent and works hard!
