I worked at Altec Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company that promotes a positive work environment and family focused atmosphere.

    Cons

The fast pace of the job can be stressful at times. It's a complicated mfg process to build custom products.

    Advice to Management

An increase in the vacation time would be a big boost to employee morale and would align Altecs family policies enter with the rest of the world.

I have been working at Altec Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good pay and benefits package

    Cons

Management has no idea what you're are doing and no idea how to fix a problem if it arises because management positions are normally filled by people who have recently graduated college. The best part is I have know someone to be a supervisor at Altec and had a degree in agricultural engineering. Also they can't schedule building the trucks very well and we always had to wait for parts to come in for 1 year I work 55+ hours a week and every Saturday because our plant was that far behind

    Pros

Altec "As a Whole" is very family and team oriented, Benefits are great

    Cons

Management could use some work in the planning and people skills Department

    Advice to Management

Followup is important, be direct and specific on what goals and expectations are to set associates up for success.

I worked at Altec Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Altec truly is an industry leader and is always looking to innovate their product and process, which is great no mater what your job inside the company is. The pay is very good pay and the benefits are probably the best that I will ever have. Altec is big on having a team, even a family type, atmosphere. They take care of their employees and treat them well. Being family owned by the same family going on now for 87+ years is something really special. I left mainly to be closer to family but this is definitely a company you can spend a lifetime with, as many have. I could really go on and on.

    Cons

Sometimes requires long hours and the occasional Saturday. Constant push for excellence means standards constantly change which can become frustrating, especially when it causes the longer hours, even when in the long run it's for the better.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

I have been working at Altec Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team atmosphere and core values. Most are there to see everyone succeed. Would suggest this business to a friend for employment.

    Cons

Management issues, not all are willing to help employees advance. Human resources can be putting off and the response time to job application is too long.

I have been working at Altec Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable well established company with good associates

    Cons

Dead end low compensation medium benefits package poor retirement benefits

    Advice to Management

Open up a way for the associates to grow in the company.

I worked at Altec Industries (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an intern, you are not here to make copies or do "busy-work" but instead to accomplish meaningful projects for the company. At the end of my internship, I was able to see work that I had done actually implemented on the trucks, which was an awesome feeling. The other employees are fantastic and want to help you succeed.

    Cons

The commute. Like any manufacturing facility, it's going to be pretty far away from major cities.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the excellent work by providing projects for interns that are within their skill level but also push them to grow and develop.

I worked at Altec Industries part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of free food. Great people to work with. They require a final presentation at the end of the rotation which was a great way to show case your work and network with other managers.

    Cons

Far from major cities, hence long commute. Some departments did not give interns much work during the internship which did not reflect well with some students.

    Advice to Management

The program is well structured. It would be nice to see the departments follow the HR guidelines more closely. Over all though, great experience.

I worked at Altec Industries (Less than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers in office become great friends. The pay is great, and you work overtime almost every week. Assigned projects that make you feel like you are an actual employee and not just a runner. Your work feels like it matters to the production of the company

    Cons

The onboarding and training process for a co-op could definitely have some improvements. My first rotation at Altec I did not fully grasp my job until the last month of that semester. Then the next rotation at Altec you are in a new department.

    Advice to Management

The onboarding for interns or co-ops should probably last longer than the first day with an all day orientation. Maybe make it a week or two long. I taught myself about APS without any training.
