    Pros

Good environment. Non-managerial peers are friendly and easy to work together.

    Cons

Quite a bit of politics when comes to promotion. HR not pro-active.

    Advice to Management

Exercise less favoritism and more on providing opportunities for everyone to grow.

I worked at Altera full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People were great. Lots of camoradorie

    Cons

President was an introverted know it all. Prided himself on remembering every negative thing about employees. Horrible at employee morale building

    Advice to Management

Realize that "seasoned" employees have a lot to offer. Quit "pushing out" older employees via severance agreements that had a lot of valuable experience.

"Stuffy, especially for Bay Area tech company"

    Pros

Nice campus, good cafe, lots of training opportunities

    Cons

VERY political. Little to no appreciation or room for growth in support positions. Culture is not at all typical of Bay Area tech companies: very stuffy and rigid. Bought by Intel, so outlook is not great.

    Advice to Management

LISTEN to your support staff. They know better than anyone else how to improve morale.

    Pros

It is above average in terms of pay. It has lucrative product lines and is financially stable.

    Cons

Most process-oriented and boring company I have ever been at . Performance reviews all the time- quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reviews. Definitely over the top and unhealthy in terms of processes. This company is high on operation effectiveness and low on innovation. HR most definitely favors the company and ignores employees. I had put remarks in the feedback section of my performance review which detailed how I was wrongfully evaluated, and found out later to my surprise that they were totally unread by anyone else except... my manager. You can guess what happened next. Management only cares about performance (in terms of metrics), and little else.

    Advice to Management

Scale down on the processes and focus on building a healthy culture.

I worked at Altera full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great for employers with children as work time is flexible and if your workload is manageable. (Workload distribution across employees varies greatly.)
Employees across departments are very helpful and friendly.
You can enjoy your work if it's right for you.

    Cons

A lot of politics having employees to showcase, or peacock display their work to get promotions. Salary well-below industrial average. Could be just be me. Felt exploited. HR dept is good for almost nothing.
Work could be more enjoyable if fairly compensated.

    Advice to Management

Salaries distribution grossly uneven. Value work achieved rather than the presentation.

I have been working at Altera full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Refer to Cons. Nothing proud to say

    Cons

Ugliest management chain. You rarely see R&D management involving in technical discussions. 90% of R&D management spend their time updating spread sheets. Around 6 re-organization announcements in last 14months.

If you are an NCG/Inter, i'm sorry to say your life is ruined. You will get lost pretty soon and your hopes becoming a good engineer too.

    Advice to Management

Advice is for Intel Management not to Altera 's

Replace the R&D 's first two levels of employees asap. Honestly you can fire them.
