Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Be Aware & Beware

Apr 13, 2021 - Business Intelligence Analyst in Frisco, TX

    Pros

-New office -Lunch and snacks provided -Decent benefits

    Cons

As a BI Analyst the salary to workload is not ideal. Nothing is automated, the manager of the BI Team is not focused at all on automating any of the process. They still buy lists and believe in lots of manual work. There is no direction the manager is grasping at any straws sales throws his way. You will not be running reports, building dashboards or even studying KPI's. There has been a total of 10 analysts have come through this team and only 4 remain,,, for now. If this team was managed by someone else I believe it could be beneficial and productive to the company but being connected to upper management is a key factor in this at the moment. If you do have an issue HR is very hands off. They do not solve issues within the office they just hope everyone will forget and stop reaching out. The overall vibe of the company is who you know. When asking for raises and reviews you will be laughed at or given the "we are restructuring the company" line.

High Pressure Environment with Micro Management

    Jun 24, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    The people, benefits, and products.

    Cons

Huge quotas, difficult to hit. Constant changes over the years in compensation packages made to now make less income, and with caps. Many of the senior level and experienced sales people have left, leaving a staff of people with less experience, especially from the industry, therefore, lesser pay. Lack of communication from upper management on changes to policies, processes and vision. HR is a joke. Just keep your mouth closed and don't complain. Altium does not value their employees as they did quite a few years ago. You are replaceable by their means.

    Roll of the Dice.

    Pros

Good money if you are fortunate to land in the right territory. When we had an office they provided meals throughout the day.

    Cons

Contestant changes to workflow and overall goal, not considering how it would affect quota. No accountability from management when overreaching for a goal. Totally ignorant to social issues, and racial disparities in the workplace, several off-hand racist remakes for upper management in meetings that were stream from Boston to La Jolla office.

Great product, good company, terrible leadership

    Pros

Altium offers some of the best PCB design software on the market and is posied for explosive growth. The employees are mostly outstanding people who work well together and provide the customer with a quality product and experience. There is opportunity for learning and, to a lesser degree, professional growth. Nice facilities and catered lunches are a bonus, and a pretty fair compensation package rounds out the offerings.

    Cons

For a lot of my time there, upper management was disjointed, the company mission was nebulous at best, and morale suffered, especially at the hands of an individual in management who embodied many of the qualities seen in LinkedIn's "How to spot a Bad Manager" articles. Dishonesty and obscurity plagued things like compensation plans and expectations. Comp plans were always late, often by months, and could not be counted on. I received only one review in nearly four years, and that was just after being hired on. The last ones we did as a company were initially completed as "self-reviews" and we were threatened to get them submitted A.S.A.P. After months and several changes to the HR department, they were discarded and no review was ever administered.

    Pros

I worked at Altium for more than 2 years. I must say it's SO OBVIOUS the reviews written by real employees and ones written by management to offset them. First, yes free lunch, nice facilities, and a good product.

    Cons

-CEO and upper management are all from Tazmania. There is only a select few with stock options or have any real say on anything. If they disagree with you, you're gone. -Turnover extremely high. They continue to rotate the sales people so they don't have to pay any residual commissions. - Very shady company where politics and back stabbing run the day. Not hard work and result Run in a boot camp style mentality where weekly pressure puts unnecessary stress on sales reps forced to call and call and call to customers for a sale when their clearly not ready to buy. This upsets customers and long term potential business

    Pros

-Great place to get intro level sales experience. -Free lunches. -Thats all I can think of.

    Cons

-upper management is made up of an older generation that have been pushed out from management positions at competitor companies in the industry. - All top performing Account Managers and Account Executives And Field Application Engineers in the US have left with in the last 6 months. - The only thing the upper management cares about is driving up the stock price on a stock that is over inflated.
