    Negative Outlook

I worked at Altoona Regional Health System part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, PTO. Co workers are very helpful however, it depends on which unit you are in. Salary raise every year.

    Cons

Poor staffing. No consideration with patient's equity. I work in a Palliative/Medical Oncology Unit with no CNA or just 1. No help given. Management turns a blind eye to existing issues. Employees are just numbers, replaceable.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your employees especially the nurses. They are the backbone of the business.

    Pros

    Vacation Time
    Nice Facilities
    Parking
    Quick Access to Emergency Personnel

    Cons

    Pay
    Hostile Work Environment
    Middle Management
    No Room for Advancement
    Work Hours
    Employee Attitude
    Corrupt HR / Management

    Advice to Management

It would be in your best interest to replace much of your middle management and HR Department. The corruption is out of this world. If a manager wants someone gone, they will be gone within weeks. I saw it happen on multiple occasions.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Altoona Regional Health System part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Long term employer in a difficult economy. Good benefits and decent saleries. Multiple shifts that work with your family life.

    Cons

Being a good worker doesn't lead to better salaries or better jobs. Being a union facility, there are employees that need to be reprimanded or dismissed but are protected by the unions.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees before making desicions that effect them. We recently had a lot of construction and there are areas that are not user freindly. If someone would have asked the people using the areas things might be easier to work with.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Pay is fair for the area
Co-Workers are fantastic on some floors

    Cons

Management on some floors can act as bullies
    Little recognition for hard work
    Frequent nit-picking
    VERY poor, frequently unsafe staffing
Low patient satisfaction rates due to poor staffing

    Advice to Management

This hospital has several issues but the biggest one is staffing. An RN taking up to 8 acutely ill patients alone with no aid or helper is ridiculous and unsafe... so don't ask your staff why your floor's satisfaction rating is down.
