    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Altria full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great way to start your career with good pay and great benefits. Great people to work with and helps you become a professional.

    Cons

Declining industry so I cannot recommend for someone who wants a career. Not a progressive company so if you are open-minded you will feel out of place. Walking through the front door you feel like you've been transported to the late 1970's in a bad way. Horrible cafeteria food. Worse of all...SMALL AREA TO GROW WITHIN THE COMPANY.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Altria full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Make your own schedule, autonomy, great benefits

    Cons

If you don't fit the mold, you wont be able to break through...you have to be a "yes man" to rise in the ranks-the "yes man" environment creates unneeded stress and work on the sales force which in turn costs the company a ton of money. I do not see the sales force being as big as they are in 10 years, you are going to see more downsizing even though the CEO says the sales force is AFDC most competitive advantage.

    Advice to Management

Stop blowing smoke and get back to the basics....at the end of the day we are a tobacco company, period. The social issues that you all are focus on isn't growing business and is distracting from what we need to do. You focusing on 10% of the company while the other 90% roll our eyes and think "you are really paying me to fly somewhere and have a meeting about social issues vs new ways to sell".

I worked at Altria as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work experience. Real world work experience, with a lot of opportunities in engineering. Great Intern program, with great benefits. Lots of resources to learn and grow in the company

    Cons

Manufacturing environment, there exists a generation gap between the senior engineers and the new junior hires. Almost all managers are 20 years older than the associates.

    Advice to Management

    Great Work!! Keep it up!

    Cons

    Old-Fashioned Company

Depending on your manager, you have a lot of autonomy and independence. If you plan and prioritize effectively on the job you have a massive potential to create a lot of free time during the week.

    Cons

Clientele, negative stigma against tobacco, few opportunities to move upward in company without relocation.

    Advice to Management

Create new positions within local areas to promote professional growth

    Pros

Great training ground. Company focussed on training and development to build long-term employees. Advancement opportunities for those willing to put back in the hard work.

    Cons

Fast trackers tend to be those thru a University Relations school. doesn't mean others can't move up, but those recruited from a U.R. school seem to be put on a fast track.
