Overall, awesome place to work with really smart and dedicated people. The level of training one received not only in the beginning but throughout your career was awesome. Fully supported by management top down and help and resources were there when needed.

    Cons

Work life balance was difficult at times. "Fire drills" often occurred which disrupted longer range business goals.

I have been working at Altria (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent compensation package regarding salary, benefits, expenses, company provided vehicle, and.deferred profit sharing.

    Cons

Local Senior Management Team Unsupportive in their role to lead, and, develop their staff. Complexities that can be simplified, and, too many multiple initiatives simultaneously initiated across four Operating Companies.

    Advice to Management

Develop a sense of support rather than blatant criticism. I often contemplate if my management team is an advisory?

I have been working at Altria full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work is challenging, fast-paced, and rewarding. Great work environment with my direct peers. benefits are really fantastic...looking around at similar jobs in other geographies, it's difficult to find something that pays as well.

    Cons

Fragmented organizational structure is inefficient-poor communication between different functions. Three workforce reductions since 2008 makes me question the viability of working here long term. Limited opportunities for advancement if you like being a scientist.

    Advice to Management

Continue to fight against the tendency of the separate organizations to be so separate. Employees have been complaining about this for years, but it doesn't appear that much has changed. I think this particular issue deserves more attention than other initiatives, like diversity and inclusion, for instance.

I have been working at Altria full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. The initial training is really good and can motivate you to be very passionate about your job.

    Cons

Some people are promoted for arbitrary reasons (shared personal interests, friendly with upper management, looks). There are some really good managers, but you can expect to work for a few over your career that will make your job more difficult.

    -Flexible Schedule
    -Company car and i-pad

-You don't have a manager watching over you every day

    Cons

-New company enhancements have added way more stores to everyone's workload
-Some managers were promoted too early and do not possess the skills needed to lead a team
-Dealing with retailers that try to treat you any way they please
-Always having to explain why you work for 'Big Tobacco"

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your new entry-level hires. Assign a mentor for every new hire. Treat everyone you manage equally. Enhance the company culture!
