I have been working at Alzheimer's Society full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I made a handful of very good friends. There’s a nice private room in head office where you can go and cry after a terrible day at work.

    Cons

Toxic culture within the fundraising department and very high turnover of staff. Little deveoplement or promotion opportunities unless you are one of the “chosen ones”. Senior management pay lip service to junior members of the team but complaints are never dealt with by HR. Very irresponsible expenses within Regional Fundraising with is a stark juxtaposition with the massive...

    Advice to Management

Please listen to your staff as you are loosing very good talent. There needs to be change from the top down and a total refresh of the management team.

I have been working at Alzheimer's Society part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Emotionally rewarding work overall and lovely people. Good training offered.

    Cons

HR are only interested in saving money and do not value individual employees. Low staff morale resulting in high turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

Actually value those people on the front-line and perhaps there wouldn't be such a constant turnover of staff.

    I worked at Alzheimer's Society

    Pros

    - driven, ambitious charity that supports people affected by dementia

    Cons

    - feedback is not welcome about how improvements can be made - new staff roles not well scoped out and extremely limited progression opportunities - very heavy handed management and performance management, which will only get worse once the performance rated pay kicks in in a couple of years - work place bullying - high pressure in Operations with high turnover and sickness...

    Advice to Management

    - listen to staff - consider feedback when things aren't working and act to improve - have a more human rather than textbook / academic approach to managing people
