I have been working at Alzheimer's Society full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Leading the charity sector thanks to it's innovation and ability to push boundaries Large fundraising team with a wealth of experience

    Cons

Lazy line management that went under the radar for too long

    Advice to Management

Better line management and an understanding of the importance of development and progression to enhance people's career's within the Society. Each time progression was attempted, it was always blocked and no real explanation given or opportunities to grow experience and knowledge to help with progression. Have chosen to leave the Society due to this reason, as there was no real pathway for Community Fundraiser's to progress...

I have been working at Alzheimer's Society full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Friendly, generous, hard-working people Inspiring sense of mission Sense of community Genuine desire to help others Great progress in supporting and developing personnel Excellent training opportunities

    Cons

Breakneck pace of change Key business processes and standards are disorganised Heavy time and budget pressures to constantly do more with less Quality of line management is variable across the organisation (I'm lucky, my line manager is ace but others definitely aren't)

    Advice to Management

Invest in knowledge management to prevent waste of time and effort in re-inventing of wheels Focus on getting fundamentals right rather than innovation for its own sake

"No management support from this company"

    I worked at Alzheimer's Society

    Pros

Working with those people affected by dementia.

    Cons

There are far too many lines of management in this organisation, from line management, to locality, to regional. Despite requests over a 2 year period for support no manager was willing to discuss.

    Advice to Management

You implement staff appraisals and annual reviews but do not act on any comments made by staff. The information from these meetings is just stored on a computer and disregarded. I cannot rate management with even one star in reality
