I have been working at AmSurg (More than 5 years)

    Pros

AMSURG has a motivated and well rounded senior management team. Benefits and PTO are generous and employee friendly. Opportunities for advancement are available for those that want to work hard and go the extra mile. Beautiful building and work environment. Communication with department leader is transparent and timely.

    Cons

New acquisition has created some levels of fear and uncertainty. Concerns that our current culture will be lost in the larger organization.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing and don't forget where this company started and what it stands for.

I have been working at AmSurg full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great management. They always took care of their employees to make sure they had a good work life balance. Administrator equipment was always the best and teams were always great to work with.

    Cons

The direction of the company was not always straight forward. The operations teams were always the worst to work with. If operations said no then it didn't happen.

    Advice to Management

Doing what is right is more important than making that extra dollar. Allow IT to be a driving force for change in the surgery centers instead of shoving them in the corner.

    Pros

    The hours are really good

    Cons

the management is petty and makes decisions based off of favoritism. Fear is the main tactic used as motivation. Management lacks people skills. They will fire you for anything.

I have been working at AmSurg full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful overall culture and state of the art building. Excellent benefit package and desirable PTO package. There is a great deal of room for growth with the rapidly expanding business. Salaries are comparable with the market and good as you increase in experience. Overall good career move for accountants due to the range of experience and prestige of the company in the Nashville market.

    Cons

Lack of communication among management. Divisions bad mouth each other rather than come together as a team with a common goal. Controller doesn't respect employee's time and schedules multiple meetings at the same time. Expects staff to rearrange their whole day to meet his needs.

    Advice to Management

Close the gap between the divisions and do a better job of communication.

I have been working at AmSurg full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The culture at AMSURG is great. Senior management is focused on employee retention and satisfaction. The company surveys employee satisfaction annually and creates actionable plans for any areas that need improvement. Salary and bonus is very good. Benefits are comprehensive although health insurance is expensive (but it is everywhere else too).

    Cons

Rapid growth company sometimes creates challenges. Mergers are generally adjacency business so integration is very loose, so the outliers that do significant enterprise work have challenges accessing people and resources across company lines.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that mergers don't damage the great culture. Stay aware of the stresses and challenges of poorly integrated companies.

I worked at AmSurg full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Experience

4 Weeks PTO for entry level* (however, you almost always will have to work extra to make up the time)

    Cons

This is a fine company if you are needing to get your foot in the door of the accounting world. Basically, they offer sub-average compensation, but you get a lot of experience that looks good on a resume. However, staff accountants are notoriously over-worked here. From budgeting season till year end (basically Sept - end of Jan), you will constantly work over 40 hours a week and a number of weekends if you hope to stay in the managers' good graces.

I had 3 different managers in less than 2 years and each one came with their own specific, precise demands for how my job should be done. Somehow, by the last manager, though I was working harder than ever, I was being given the impression that my job performance was getting worse. Your success and happiness at this job literally depends on the manager you have, and unfortunately that's a continual roll of the dice here.

They have high turnover for a reason. In a nutshell, get in, get some experience, and get out. Good luck.

    Advice to Management

Do everything different because it's not working

I have been working at AmSurg full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and there is some very useful technology in place in the office. Very open work environment.

    Cons

There is a strong group or clic mentality where I work. If you're not part of the group, then you tend to be ignored. Meetings run over the scheduled times. Not a strong sense of department direction.

    Advice to Management

Not much that can be done. But sometimes a manager needs to be a manager and not a friend to the employees. Not everything is a group decision.
